In the search for the ultimate sheet mask, it seems like every food group with the obvious exception of meat, has been covered. There is no shortage of this skincare innovation available in such variations as green tea, lemon, cucumber, rice, avocado, olive, pomegranate, kelp and even something called mung bean.
So what's left?
Well, how about a fruit that's synonymous with summer? Watermelon! And just in time for the solstice, Glow Recipe's come up with a gel variation of the sit-and-peel skin care item that they have named the "Watermelon Jelly Sheet Mask".
It's a branching-off of the company's watermelon sleeping mask and moisturizer that have been on the market for a while. Similar to the overnight mask, this one is permeated with a slew of antioxidants and hyaluronic acid, which can be found in the very watermelon we like to sink our teeth into, but without those annoying seeds. Adding more comfort to our epidermal layers is an extra herb ingredient of centella asiatica, which is loaded with amino acids, beta carotene and fatty acids.
The product is slated to roll out online on June 1st (in store on June 29th), but is already available for pre-order. At just $8, this sheet mask diverts from its cloth-like competition in that it's available in a nearly-transparent pinkish gel, making it easier to cover all the contours of the face. The hydrogel in the substance goes through pores almost instantaneously and the built-in inflammatory properties even help get rid of that annoying morning puffiness that appears after waking up. It's also not as messy, and extremely easy to use.
After rubbing the watermelon gel over the face and ensuring it gets into all those nasty nooks and crannies, let it sit for up to 15 minutes and then gently peel the layer off. Then, whatever residue remains on the face should be rubbed in. If done properly, the results should be noticeable, with skin that's much smoother to the touch and a more even toned to one's complexion.
The Watermelon Jelly Sheet Mask can be ordered from sephora. com, where other similar products are available. Simply go to the nav bar, click on "Shop" and then select "Skincare" and "Sheet Masks," where you'll find additional options from soy face cleansers to lactic acid treatments!
