Tom Cruise has cemented his place in la-la land and there are so many reasons why. Despite the public thinking, he may be a little off of his rocker, there is no denying that he is a talented actor. He is known for performing his own dangerous stunts and immersing himself intently in every role he accepts.
We see his name in flashing lights on a regular basis, but sometimes we forget some interesting facts about him. Let’s remind ourselves about 10 things we probably forgot about Tom Cruise.
10 Divorced Wives At 33 Years Old
In Hollywood, it is not an uncommon thing to get married quickly and divorced even faster. Tom Cruise is a famous celebrity who fits right into this category. He has not married just once but a total of 3 times! He was married to Mimi Rogers in 1987 for three years, Nicole Kidman for eleven years and Katie Holmes for five years.
What is a bit strange about all of these divorces is that all three wives were 33 years old at the time of the divorce. Maybe it is coincidence or something planned, either way, it is really strange.
9 He Stopped A Mugger
If Tom Cruise is not acting as a hero in the latest box office hit, he sure is one naturally in real life. Back in 1998, Cruise heard the horrified screams of his neighbor being robbed. This happened in London and we are sure that his neighbor was more than grateful that the actor had her back. The muggers were after an estimated $ 153,000 jewelry.
Tom quickly stepped into action and chased the muggers down alongside his bodyguards. You really never know what may happen in a split second, so it is really good that Tom was able to courageously help out.
8 His Oprah Moment
In 2005 Tom Cruise was all the rage. He was on every magazine cover and had the spotlight shine a little harder on him during this period. He became engaged to fellow actor Katie Holmes and Hollywood was eating it up. This seemed to be the beginning of his kooky and erratic behavior.
During an interview with the queen of television Oprah Winfrey, Cruise lost control of himself. When questioned about his feelings for Holmes, he got so enthusiastic that he literally jumped up on Winfrey’s couch! The public came to the conclusion that Tom had officially lost his mind after this incident.
7 He Does His Own Stunts
Cruise is known for putting out some of the wildest action movies of our time. We can see him flying in the air, escaping burning cars and jumping through buildings in order to save the day. While many actors choose to have stunt doubles to perform this risky scenes, Tom does not. His most famous action movies: Mission Impossible is where you can see him really push the envelope physically.
He has scaled the largest building in Dubai, flown helicopters through canyons and even dangled from an airbus. As badass as this all sounds, sometimes things do not always go smoothly. The actor has suffered injuries due to the severity of these stunts.
6 Tom Cruise Day (Japan)
October 10th, 2006 was officially declared “Tom Cruise Day” in Japan by the Japan Memorial Day Association. The association decided to honor the actor with this declaration because of his devotion to the country. He has made multiple trips to Japan over the years and has always shown love and appreciation for Japan. Cruise has come a long way as an actor.
He started his career off at the young age of 19 years old and has grown immensely. He has come a long way and now has an entire day devoted to him. There are not too many other actors who have accomplished this type of fame and gratitude from a foreign land.
5 He Hates His Teeth
There is no doubt that Hollywood celebrities go above and beyond to get help in looking at their best. Whether they have on-call stylists, professional makeup artists or trainers, they always seem to look their best. It is almost taboo to be a big-time celebrity and not look well put together. It is almost as if the public has put them on pedestals and transformed them into not even being human. These celebs climb their way to the top and in doing so, they also transform themselves physically.
Cruise is no exception. Before he peaked in his fame, he did not look at how he does today. His teeth were something that he was really insecure about. They were uneven, some missing and discolored. Over the years, he was able to fix them up and now has a smile that he is confident about. His new teeth completely transformed the way he looks and it is definitely for the better.
4 Scientology Enthusiast
Over the past decade, Scientology has been under a magnifying glass in tinsel town. Actors like Leah Remini have tried to draw awareness to the truth about the church. Cruise has been a strong advocate in promoting Scientology and trying to make people truly understand it. There has been a lot of controversy over the practices and the true intentions behind the church.
Cruise was dubbed a crazy person for the way he expressed himself in interviews when it came to speaking out about Scientology. There is no way that everyone will agree with everyone else’s beliefs and values but it is always important to respect one another, despite our differences.
3 No Games
When big action-packed movies hit the theatres, we can expect all of the promotional material to quickly follow. We find shelves stocked with movie posters, t-shirts, and even action figures. Many actors have their own figurines for different movie roles they have played in. Naturally, many companies wanted Tom to become an action figurine as well. Unfortunately, we will not be seeing a Tom portrayal in figurine form or a video game console anytime soon. There could have been a lot of material produced from the action movie Top Gun and many others Cruise starred in.
The only game that Cruise was somewhat involved in was 2002’s Minority Report. Cruise’s character ended up with blonde hair and resembled nothing like the actual actor. Cruise is not the only actor to decline to be a part of the “game” aspect that follows movies. Usually, the actor’s agent ends up declining any comment when questioned about their whereabouts.
2 No Academy Award (yet)
It is a great dream from many actors to win an Academy Award at some point in their career. For many, this award is what makes or breaks their career. It can completely change how many movie roles you will receive as well and increase your credibility as an actor, should you win.
Cruise has yet to win an actual Academy Award although he has been nominated three times. He was nominated for Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia. Many actors strive their entire careers to finally collect the gold statue and the dream only comes true later on in their career.
1 Aladdin Look-Alike
Disney has a lot of tricks up their sleeves when it comes to making a movie successful. Every film they put out usually winds up a smash hit. Aladdin is a classic tale about a princess falling in love with a local peasant. The creators of Aladdin made sure that every detail was perfect in making sure that the movie sounded believable. Aladdin had to be a somewhat attractive man in order for the royal princess to lay eyes on her lover.
Disney decided to model Aladdin’s look after Tom Cruise. Once you take a look at Aladdin, there is no way you can’t see Tom Cruise in the cartoon’s look.
