No matter where you are in your fitness journey from breaking down barriers that keep you from working out, or being consistent and reaching a plateau, there are always ways to improve not just your physical aspect, but your mentality about your fitness goals anyways.

Why are you doing your fitness regime? Is it to reach a goal or to make healthy habits? Maybe it is a mix of both, but either way, having a healthy relationship with exercise is vital for getting anywhere.

Here are 10 tips for feeling more confident in your workout and enjoying it too. Sometimes when you start something new, it is easy to get down about yourself when you don't feel capable. Remember that practice makes perfect and fitness is a journey.

10 Modify When You Need To

If you can't do a push-up and you feel bad about yourself, the answer is to work towards that goal by modifying first. When you modify a move, whether it be a push-up or any other, it allows you to build up the strength.

Start by doing push-ups on your knees or against a wall, then work your way up to the full move. Modifying is key to improving, getting stronger and feeling capable.

9 Redo A Move To Focus On Form

If you are following a workout video and struggle with a certain move, either pause the video and slow it down, or come back to the move after the workout to get a better grip. It is normal when something is new that it challenges your body in new ways.

You can make it a goal to improve it by practicing it each day, maybe not with the goal to burn lots of calories but just learn to move your body in a new way and get stronger.

8 Do Fewer Reps, More Rounds

While modifying a move is the best way to prolong it, you can also choose to do fewer reps and more rounds. For example, if your HIIT workout requires you to do a plank for 45 seconds and that is too intense, you can bring it to your knees to still feel the burn. Or, you can do three rounds of 20 seconds.

Another example could be an ab move, if 45 seconds is too intense and you can't go on, do fewer reps in a correct way to get stronger, but repeat them.

7 Mirror Workouts For Improving

Mirror workouts have been a recent fitness craze for a lot of reasons, but one is that if you are working out by yourself it is easier to self-correct and get the form down. Just looking at a video is not enough to get a handle on how you are moving your body.

The mirror will make it easier to improve faster because you can see your mistakes.

6 Take Breaks

When you are doing a structured workout, such as a class or following a video, it is normal to get tired in the middle or towards the end, remember to have a growth mindset that you are just getting stronger.

Take a break if you feel you need it. Sometimes a little break makes a big difference in being able to work out your hardest and best.

5 LISS VS HIIT

There are two big kinds of workout techniques in the industry at the moment, HIIT and LISS. HIIT requires you to do moves quickly, for a shorter period of time whereas LISS allows you to do things for longer periods of time but at a more steady pace. Think of it as running versus pilates.

Know what kind of workout you prefer, what works for your body and what feels good.

4 Practice Makes Perfect

Remember that it is normal to struggle through a workout. What you see on social media when people post their workouts is a final product, they had to work to get good at it.

It is easy to feel incapable when you struggle, but try to remember that it is normal and just keep working at it. If you feel incapable of a move, make it a point to practice it to master it.

3 Do Moves You Enjoy

The easiest way to enjoy your workout is to know what you like and pick workout routines that allow you to move in a way that is enjoyable for you. It takes time to know what you like in a workout as well, so don't be afraid to try new things, but allow yourself to do your favorites in order to make exercise more accessible.

2 Listen To Your Body

Always listen to your body, if something hurts then stop to prevent injury. And if you go hard one day, it is okay to need a day of passive recovery, meaning just sitting on the couch and relaxing. Normalize listening to your body, resting and taking it easy when you need to.

1 Challenge Yourself To Try New Things

That being said as long as you are listening to your body, don't be afraid to challenge yourself. If you have been doing the modified moves for a while, take a chance and try the full move, you might surprise yourself when you can do it now.
