Of course, there is a man behind the myth, and his name is Pedro Pascal. In case you're wondering where the heck this man came from and what he's all about, look no further. This iconic role is certainly not this actor's first rodeo, and you should definitely learn to remember his name. Here are 10 things you didn't know (and should) about the Mandalorian himself, Pedro Pascal.

10 He Was Born in Santiago, Chile

We guess you'd never really know the ethnic origin of this masked crusader, but it turns out he's actually Chilean-American. He was born on April 2nd, 1975, in Santiago, Chile (yes, he's an Aries!).

His full name is actually José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal, which is DEFINITELY quite the Spanish name. In case you needed more reasons to love him, we're sure this is a pretty good one to add. Now, however, he resides in the big city of New York, where he's lived for almost 20 years.

9 His Parents Were Granted Political Asylum

One really amazing fact about this man is that his parents were granted political asylum, and that it's the reason he was raised in California and then Texas.

Around the time of his birth, his parents were involved in the opposition movement against the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile. This is a pretty rich family history, and is quite the incredible story of him rising to fame in the United States.

8 He Was a Competitive Swimmer Before Choosing Acting

Pedro Pascal was almost a super successful swimmer before he turned over to acting. In fact, he participated in the state championships in Texas when he was just 11 years old.

However, he ceased competing in order to dedicate more time to his drama classes. We're forever thankful, because we're not so sure our favorite shows would be the same without this incredible actor. But honestly, is there anything this man can't do?

7 He Started in Television

While he actually has quite a few movie roles, this man got his start in television. Also, you could definitely argue that his most famous roles are from the small screen.

However, way back when, you can catch a young Pedro Pascal making a small appearance in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Law & Order. And more recently, he also a recurring role in The Good Wife, Graceland, The Mentalist, and Narcos, where he was even a lead character.

6 His Breakout Role Was in Game of Thrones

If you're scratching your head wondering where you've seen him before, he was the one and only Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones. He only appears for one season (season 4), but all fans of the show know exactly who this character is.

This wasn't Pascal's first acting role, but it was definitely the one that got his face and name out there. Yes, he's masked as the Mandalorian, so you might have had no clue. We're sorry if we blew your mind. If you haven't seen this hit HBO series, it's worth it for Oberyn's wickedly brilliant character.

5 He's Really Good Friends with Lena Headey

As if we needed more reason to love him, he's actually close with Lena Headey, AKA Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones. If you watch the show, you know that these two characters couldn't quite possibly hate each other more than they do. In fact, things get pretty sticky (no spoilers, don't worry).

However, after Pascal left the show, him and Headey remain close as ever, which is quite a hilarious and wholesome fact for GoT fans. We're glad they could patch things up after the show, right?

4 He's Big Into Theater

That's right, this badass character actor also loves theater. Seriously, what's not to love about this man? He actually directs some theater productions in Los Angeles, and has appeared as an actor in both theater and a few Off-Broadway shows.

In fact, he's also a member of New York City's LAByrinth Theater Company. This is a man of many talents, and we're so glad he's sharing them with the world. If you can't get enough, now you have another platform to catch this brilliant and versatile man on.

3 He's Also Done Some Blockbuster Movies

Sure, we know and love this man from the small screen, but he's certainly also dabbled in his share of movies. With 3 in production, we suggest checking out Triple Frontier, where he stars alongside Ben Affleck and Oscar Isaac (a fellow Star Wars actor and close friend of Pascal).

Also, he had a hilarious and badass role in the Kingsman sequel, where he played Whiskey. However, real fans will know that he starred in the vampire comedy, Bloodsucking Bastards, which is definitely a cringy treat.

2 He Has a Starring Role in the New Wonder Woman Film

The prequel to the popular DC film, Wonder Woman 1984, is set to premiere sometime this year in 2020. While Pedro Pascal has clearly been making waves in the industry, he was also recently cast as Maxwell Lord, a leading role in the movie alongside Gal Gadot.

In case being apart of two of your favorite fandoms wasn't enough, now we can safely say he's also entering the DC universe.

1 He Has an Active Social Media Presence

We know this is what everyone really cares about, right? In case you want to know what this man is doing all of the time, you can follow him on Instagram (@pascalispunk) AND Twitter (@PedroPascal1).

He actually is pretty active on both sites, so you can definitely get your fill of this man whenever you're looking to do some snooping. You're welcome, to say the very least.
