Stephen King Reveals His Thoughts On Film Adaptation Of "Doctor Sleep"

After It: Chapter Two came out to massive critical and commercial success earlier this month, one would think that there won't be anymore Stephen King film adaptations coming out this year. Between that success, the success of its predecessor (2017's It) and other adaptations in the works, it's hard to imagine another one coming out so soon. But you'd be wrong to think that!

Doctor Sleep is set to come out in North America on Friday, November 9th, 2019, starring Ewan McGregor as lead character Danny Torrance. The horror book it's based on came out on September 24th, 2013. That' roughly 36 years after The Shining- the book that precedes the former. With this upcoming film adaptation being a sequel to the 1980 film adaptation of The Shining, fan expectations are high for the Doctor Sleep sequel to deliver. Fortunately, it seems as though it's already gotten the seal of approval from the king of horror.

"DOCTOR SLEEP is coming in November. It's a hell of a good movie. And a hell of a scary one," King tweeted earlier this week.

RELATED: WHEN DOES STEPHEN KING PLAN TO RETIRE?

While King's praise will certainly sit well with those itching to see Doctor Sleep, it may be surprising to others. Back when the film adaptation of The Shining came out in 1980, King made it very clear that he despised the Stanley Kubrick-directed horror flick. So to see him praise it sequel the way he did is a nice change, to say the least.

But what exactly is Doctor Sleep about? Well, the film synopsis from Warner Brothers explains: "Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the 'shine.' Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality. Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra's innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before—at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past."

Between this interesting premise and King's high praise, Doctor Sleep looks like it's going to be a smashing success. We can't wait to see what the now grown-up Dan Torrance is up against in this fascinating flick!
