The world of fashion is mourning the loss of one of their own, as the shocking news of Kate Spade's death has rocked designers, celebrities, and her fans to the core.

Spade sadly died Tuesday morning of an apparent suicide at age 55. As the news of her death spread, social media was flooded with condolences for the family, as well as stories of how the talented designer had impacted people’s lives. It was not only famous names that were sharing their love for her, but also her those who were simply fans of her amazing designs, especially her handbags.

Her brother-in-law, comedian and actor David Spade, shared a blurry photo of the two, expressing his love of the photo and the woman in it with him. He ended with a message for his and her fans about life today.

“Its a rough world out there people. Try to hang on," he shared.

Other celebrities took the time to express their sadness over the tragic loss.

“I am heartbroken about the news of Kate Spade. I have worn her clothes many, many times. They were colorful, bold, cheerful, and encouraged women to find the twinkly person inside them,” tweeted Ocean’s 8 star, Mindy Kaling.

“Kate Spade & her brand have always been so kind to me the past couple years & I’m crushed to hear about her passing. Suicide isn’t “the easy way out” and shouldn’t be mocked. My heart goes out to her family & team today,” wrote model Tess Holiday.

Social media quickly became enveloped with tributes to the designer, with fans sharing stories about the first Kate Spade handbag they bought. Chelsea Clinton appeared to kick it off with a Tweet about how her grandmother bought her first Kate Spade bag for her, but soon Twitter was buzzing with even more amazing, loving stories.

“My mom bought me my first Kate Spade bag on the day I accepted my first full time job. I've always associated Kate Spade with celebration. RIP to a designer whose creations were nothing but whimsical & happy,” tweeted fan Dana Melcher.

“Age 13 with a little Kate Spade purse and a Wet Seal dress, you couldn't touch me. What sad sad news,” shared Allison P. Davis.

“Just hearing the Kate Spade news, and am broken-hearted. Her bags are a special thing my dad gets for me and my stepsister (and we have a Kate Spade shower curtain back home because I'm the New Yorker). Her products have always been so sentimental to me. Terribly sad,” tweeted Jeva Lange.
