Sharon Tate’s sister is not happy about the upcoming Hilary Duff film The Haunting of Sharon Tate.
Duff recently took to Instagram to post a picture of herself as the slain actress, talking about what an amazing opportunity it was for her to play Tate in the independent movie. She also praised Tate and expressed what a tragedy it was losing her. The Younger star’s resemblance to the murdered actress is uncanny, but not everyone is thrilled about the film.
Debra Tate did not hold back when it came to slamming Duff and The Haunting of Sharon Tate.
“It doesn’t matter who it is acting in it, it’s just tasteless. It’s classless how everyone is rushing to release something for the 50th anniversary of this horrific event. It would have been nice if someone had contacted me,” she told People magazine.
She is also criticizing the premise of the film. There is a scene in the film where Sharon allegedly has a dream that she and former boyfriend/hairstylist Jay Sebring would have their throats slit. Debra makes it clear this did not happen, and that it is nothing but a fabrication on the film's part.
“I checked with all of her living friends. None of her friends had any knowledge of this. Tacky, tacky, tacky it’s a total fabrication,” Tate declared.
Debra Tate was only 16-years-old when her sister Sharon was brutally murdered by Charles Manson. The slain actress was 26-years-old and eight months pregnant with Roman Polanski’s baby at the time of her death. Sebring, Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, and Steven Parent were also stabbed at the home of the actress.
The Haunting of Sharon Tate is one of three films surrounding Charles Manson and his horrendous murders. Actor Leonardo DiCaprio will play Manson in an untitled Quentin Tarantino film, while Doctor Who star Matt Smith will play the infamous murderer in Mary Harron’s Charlie Says.
Hilary Duff will play Sharon Tate in an independent film about the talented actress, whose life was cut too short by her brutal murder. However, Tate’s sister is not pleased with any of the films coming out about her sister. The 50th anniversary of the horrible murders is August 9, 2019.
