Selena Gomez has decided to take a step away from social media, and take time for herself. The “Wolves” singer has made it very clear that she does not need the internet in her life to be happy. Gomez announced on Sunday, September 23rd, 2018, that she is officially stepping away from her smartphone, and taking a break from cyberspace for the second time.
This isn’t the first time Selena has taken a break from social media, and we don’t blame her for decided to do it again. The star made the announcement via Instagram after she posted a picture of herself. Gomez wrote alongside the post, saying: “Mood lol (I was looking at myself in the mirror – like an idiot) Update: taking a social media break. Again”, she finished. Fans were sad to see the star step away from their news feeds but remained supportive of the singer’s wishes to take some time for herself.

In addition to her post, the star shared more on her decision to take a break from the online world, saying: “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given”. Amen to that! Social media plays a massive role in all of our lives, so much that it consumes many of us. Social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook have created a negative environment for many vulnerable users in regards to societal standards.
Maintaining an online presence has become such an important factor in the lives of millions of online users, that we don’t blame Selena one bit for wanting a break. Prior to the announcement, Gomez had been quite active on Instagram, posting shots of her on nights out, and messaging other stars including Jennifer Lopez after attending her Las Vegas show on September 22nd. Many are speculating that the recent news regarding Selena’s ex-Justin Bieber marrying model Hailey Baldwin is the reason behind her break, however, we doubt those reports are true.
Gomez has always been open about the importance of self-care, and if this is something she’s gotta do to keep herself in check, then we’re on board! We think it’s safe to say that we could all use a little break from social media, perhaps we should all follow in Selena Gomez's footsteps.
