If you smartly squirreled your stash of scrunchies away in a box marked "90's Accessories... Do Not Open Until A Comeback Is Confirmed" - now is the time to dig that box up. Scrunchies are back, ladies!
Hollywood Life has it on good authority that it was Selena Gomez who brought up the throwback trend back in 2013 during an appearance for the David Letterman Show. While some took notice of the 90's hair tie holding back Gomez's tresses, apparently the world wasn't ready at that time to embrace the comeback.
But times have changed and now scrunchies are hitting the shelves once again! So if you didn't keep your scrunchies collection (sob!) after they went out of style, you can go buy up a bunch more!
Models Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin were recently spotted looking scrunch-tastic at Coachella. Hadid had a bright white scrunchie in her dark brown hair and a black scrunchie in Baldwin's blonde locks to make sure that their hair accessories stood out. Baldwin was also seen around town with a navy blue scrunchie that had pulled her hair into a high ponytail for an extra dose of 90's vibes. She has also posted a pic of herself wearing a red scrunchie on Instagram.
Other celebrities who have been seen adding some scrunchie love to their hair are Cardi B, who wore hers while performing at Coachella, rocking a look that honored TLC's Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. Bella Thorne is another celeb who is getting in early on the scrunchie trend. She has been spotted in L.A. with a bright blue scrunchie holding up her red hair in a messy bun.
A brief history into the birth of the scrunchie tells us that the soft colorful hair tie is thanks to the "Scunci" brand who you must have heard of if you've ever spent any amount of time in the hair care aisle of any big store. They didn't go away just because the trend took a vacation. You can currently find a wide variety of scrunchies from colors to sizes in a hair care aisle near you if you feel like jumping back on the scrunchie bandwagon.
