Trust Ryan Reynolds to put on a sarcastic and irreverent front whenever he's in front of the cameras and microphones. After all, it's a skill that his Deadpool character has down to a science.
And it's a trait that he apparently has in common with wife Blake Lively, who pulled the ultimate gasp-triggering maneuver of unfollowing her husband on Instagram. Reynolds fielded that query on an Australian talk show in total stride with his rapier wit in top form.
"I'm very sad about that," Reynolds said in a deadpan delivery that showed his flair for understated sarcasm. "Definitely stinks. It's a terrible way to find out that I've been kicked out of the house, to be honest. Absolutely terrible. I don't know where rage like that comes from".
Loyal fans aware of the 41-year-old star's nuances were hip to his response. It also turned out that not only did Lively unfollow him on Monday, she did the same for every other Instagram supporter of hers, and got rid of all of her posts to hype A Simple Favor, her latest movie. It turns out she has a flair for combining savvy marketing with the same sarcastic demeanor she shares with Reynolds.
They're also prone to taking social media shots at each other, which is greeted with many positive remarks by their fans. However, others have reportedly not been so amused, even alluding that the two were breaking up at one point. Even the tattling faction of the media, that always looks for the slightest crumb of scandal to convert into a juicy morsel of gossip, picked up on those exchanges. They started running the ball towards the "splitsville" end-zone.
Reynolds had to step in and put an end to those rumors on social media.
"We’re never splitting. She’ll always be my mom," he said. "No matter how much jazz-cabbage she smokes with her rollerblading friends".
Meanwhile, Lively took a poke at Reynolds, particularly Deadpool 2, set for a mid-May release. Lively, who starred in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, as well as a sequel to the gal-pal melodrama, said that the co-stars are all on board. A third flick about the sisterhood could be a possibility. She hinted that if Deadpool, which stars her famous husband, warrants an additional outing, why not?
Or maybe combine the two, if the latest news surrounding the anti-hero followup is any indication. Word has it that Celine Dion, easily one of the most innocuous singers out there, was asked by Reynolds to provide a piece for the latest Deadpool flick, unlike the metal-dominated predecessor. If that's a sure sign that the Marvel character is going soft, what isn't?
Might be time to try on those magic jeans Ryan!
