When celebrities introduce lingerie lines, there's a natural reason for some to be suspicious. Motives could either range from pure vanity to a revenue stream in case a film or music career dries up, or simply the fantasy of creating a brand that endures forever (Kardashians take note, good luck and let us know how that's working out).

Then there's Rihanna, who's the first to admit she's not exactly bearing the ideal body type to be parading around in something sheer and slinky. That's part of her reasoning for her Savage X Fenty line that's out this week. Unlike the Victoria's Secret lines that tend to accentuate those, ummmm.... contours (Yeah, let's go with that!), the Savage evening styles are meant to even out the attributes into something that's a bit more body-positive.

To get into the spirit of things, Rihanna tried on one of her numbers, a set of garters that matched with a black corset. Alluring? Yes. Provocative? Sure. Smart? Definitely, considering there's no shortage of women who might be far too modest to slip into anything more daring, but might consider one of the singer's pieces in her forthcoming wardrobe line.

when yo skirt too short.

It also helps that she's incorporating a variety of sizes in the plus range, making them all the more inclusive for those who want to feel better about themselves instead of something that might have a potential disaster written all over it, a la Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Give her credit. The singer has obviously put a lot of thought into her line, given her own physique and the realization that she's not alone when it comes to body issues. She chose Savage to label her wardrobe as a way for its consumers to take personal ownership of their feelings and ensuring the prudent decisions they make in how they look. In short, dress in such a way, lingerie included that addresses your own needs, as opposed to choosing an item designed to meet other people's expectations.

"Basically making sure everybody knows the ball is in your court," she said summing up her philosophy.

For those wanting to respond to that volley once that proverbial ball lands in their zone, mark May 11th on your calendar. That's when the line is officially on the block. More details online.
