A celebrity love affair culminated in a chance meeting on The Stephen Colbert Show.

Adam Rippon has been gaining notoriety ever since the 2018 Winter Olympic games. He captured the hearts of Americans for his in-your-face attitude and incredible performance on the ice, coming home with Olympic bronze as the first openly gay male athlete to bring home a medal for the USA.

One of the people that Rippon impressed was actress Reese Witherspoon, who tweeted that the number one reason to watch the Winter Olympics was to see Rippon perform.

Naturally, Rippon responded to Witherspoon’s high praise and did what most of us would do: gush.

Although Rippon was maybe a little better at it than most, writing back: “WHEN YOURE RIGHT, YOURE RIGHT, @RWitherspoon ❤️❤️❤️ Also!! Quick movie idea for you: You (played by you) tweet me in the middle of the night at the Olympics and I (played by me) die immediately. Thoughts?”

After the Olympics and Rippon returned home from Pyeongchang, he did interviews with several publications and talk shows and was eventually approached by The Stephen Colbert Show. And who would’ve guessed that they’d book Rippon on the same day they snagged Reese Witherspoon?

"This is meant to be," Witherspoon said after screaming her delight when Rippon walked out on stage. "This is the relationship the world's been waiting for."

Rippon and Witherspoon’s chemistry was immediately apparent. The first words out of Witherspoon’s mouth: "You smell really good."

Knowing exactly what to do when someone accuses you of smelling nice, Rippon turned his charm up from merely flamboyant to utterly incandescent by sharing a brief anecdote with Stephen and Reese.

"I really needed this today because before I got here today my life was in shambles," he said. "I was getting dressed because I wanted to look my best for you, and I lost a button."

With that, he revealed his flat midriff, causing Reese (and perhaps even Colbert and the entire Colbert Show audience) to melt.

The rest of the interview is even better. Check it out below.
