It’s hard to go out nowadays and not hear something about Pete Davidson. The comedian became a pop culture sensation when he was engaged to Ariana Grande in a whirlwind romance. The pair were together for merely weeks when they decided to take the next step, which was a surprise to many Ari fans given that the star had just gotten out of a long-term relationship with Mac Miller. Couldn’t they have just gotten more tattoos of each other?

Even though Ariana and Pete have since called off their engagement (Ariana has even admitted things were rushed), the media can’t get enough of Pete. Fans still want to know more about the funny guy who stole Ariana’s heart - and is currently romancing Kate Beckinsale.

Pete was established in show business long before meeting his now-ex-fiancée. He’s best known for his time on Saturday Night Live. He’s also made appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Comedy Central Roast, Comedy Underground with Dave Attell, and he acted in Brooklyn-Nine-Nine as well as Trainwreck. Pete is also an avid supporter of mental health initiatives and has always been open with fans about his struggles.

Read on to discover what there is to know about the "almost Mr. Ariana Grande," Pete Davidson.

20 He’s Currently Dating Kate Beckinsale

Pete sure moves on fast!

Only months following his engagement to Ariana, Pete has already found himself another woman - actress Kate Beckinsale. In early January, the unlikely pair were seen canoodling during a Golden Globes party before leaving together.

"They were flirting all night and sipping champagne," a source told Cosmopolitan. "They were outside on the patio and left together."

The magazine added that the comedian confirmed their relationship status with a sheepish “yes” when a fan yelled Kate’s name at one of his stand-up shows. Despite their large age gap - she’s 45 while he’s 25 - these two appear to be going strong.

19 But It’s Not Very Serious… Yet

Given the whirlwind engagement Pete recently ended with Ariana Grande, it’s no surprise to hear that he’s taking things slow in his dating life at the moment. Despite how he and Kate Beckinsale are getting close, don’t expect these two to be getting engaged anytime soon.

“Kate’s not looking to get serious with someone,” a source told People magazine about their new relationship. “She wants to have fun with guys and date around.”

Kate is also newly single. The actress divorced her husband, director Len Wiseman, in 2016. She had a brief but passionate fling with 23-year old Matt Rife following the end of her marriage, but they called it quits last year.

18 His Dad Was A Firefighter During 9/11

Pete Davidson had a difficult childhood after he lost his father during 9/11. Scott Davidson was a firefighter who was on-scene during the fateful day, and he, unfortunately, lost his life in the line of duty. Pete has been very candid about how much the incident has impacted him.

"You’re not really supposed to learn about [losing someone] until high school," the celebrity told Variety. "To learn how anything can just be taken away from you early gave me this sense of ‘Whatever, dude.’ I’m able to do stand-up and [joke] around because hopefully, the worst thing that has ever happened to me happened."

17 He’s An Accomplished Comedian

We can tell that Ariana likes a guy with a good sense of humour considering that Pete is a successful comedian!

Despite being in his early 20s, the star has already had an impressive career. He first joined the cast of SNL in 2014 at the tender age of 20. In 2015, he was a roaster on the Comedy Central Roast Justin Bieber episode, which has been credited as one of the best episodes of the series. He’s also made stand-up appearances on Adam DeVine’s House Party, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and Comedy Underground with Dave Attell.

In 2016, Pete recorded his first stand-up special called Pete Davidson: SMD. He’s continued to do stand-up shows and appearances on TV ever since.

16 He Has Crohn’s Disease

Pete was first diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease when he was a teenager, and that's a lot for a young teen to deal with. “I got Crohn’s disease when I was 17 or 18,” Pete has said of his diagnosis, People reports. “My stomach would be in pain all day and I wouldn’t be able to eat… I’m sick, I have Crohn’s … so it sucks.”

Unfortunately, Crohn's Disease is a condition that affects many parts of the body, including the gastrointestinal tract and mouth. It is often accompanied by uncomfortable symptoms, including an inflamed abdominal area and fever. It can also lead to irritated skin, weight loss, and arthritis.

15 He Also Deals With BDP

In addition to Crohn’s Disease, Pete also struggles with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), a disorder associated with abnormal behaviour and characterized by unstable emotions, depression, and even extreme episodes. Despite the difficult condition, Pete has spoken openly about it in hopes of bringing awareness to it.

“I’ve been getting [bullied online] and in public by people for 9 months. I’ve spoken about BPD […] only in the hopes that it will help bring awareness and help kids like myself who don’t want to be on this earth,” he once wrote on social media, Today reports.

Fans (as well as his ex, Ari) have praised Pete for being an advocate for mental health.

14 His Proposal To Ariana Was Super Casual

As soon as they announced their engagement news, fans were curious to know how Pete popped the question to Ariana. But given how quick their whole relationship was, it’s no surprise to hear the proposal was just as spontaneous.

“I didn’t want to do something corny,” Pete told Variety. “We were in bed hanging, after watching a movie. I was like, ‘Will you marry me?’ It was really dope.” He continued, “I’m still convinced she’s blind or hit her head really hard. Something is going to happen, and she’s going to be like, ‘What […] is this thing doing around?’ For right now, it’s rocking.”

13 He Thought They Were The New K-Fed And Britney

Now, out of all the celebrity couples, we’re not sure being compared to Britney Spears and Kevin Federline is a good thing. After all, that was one of the shortest, most dramatic unions in Hollywood history and it came at one of Brit’s lowest points in her personal and professional career.

So, perhaps it’s telling that Pete thinks he and Ariana are similar to the now-ex couple…

“Oh, my God, you’re engaged to Ariana Grande,” someone said to Pete during an appearance on Kevin Hart’s YouTube channel after the two got engaged, Us Weekly reports. “Yes! I am!” the comedian responded. “I’m Mr. Grande. It’s me! The new Kevin Federline. How are you?”

We wonder if Pete knew his and Ariana’s relationship was just as doomed as Brit and K-Fed’s!

12 His Social Media Posts Worry Some

Pete has been open about his struggles with mental health. Following his split from Ariana, the celeb began posting a series of cryptic messages to social media. With his history of mental health issues, fans began worrying over the deeper meanings.

“I really don’t want to be on this earth any longer,” David wrote in one worrisome post last December, Heavy reports. “I’m doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don’t know how much longer I can last. All I’ve ever tried to do was help people. Just remember I told you so.”

Fans and friends became so concerned for the star that authorities were actually asked to check up on him.

11 He’s Been Ignoring Ariana Post-Split

After Pete’s series of concerning posts on social media in December, Ariana tried reaching out to him to meet up. But sources say the comedian had no interest in seeing his ex and has been actively avoiding her since their split.

“Ariana and Pete haven’t really been in contact since the split, but this doesn’t mean that she doesn’t care about him,” a source explained to People.“She was frantic after she saw his Instagram message. She feels terrible that he isn’t feeling well.”

“Pete didn’t want to see Ariana,” they continued. “As of Sunday, Ariana had not been able to reach Pete. He is ignoring her.”

10 He Actually Blocked Her On Social Media

Need more evidence that Pete was ignoring Ariana post-split?

Reports at the time said the comedian went so far as to block the pop star on all social media platforms. “He blocked her and said, ‘Stop reaching out. You’re not good for my health. I can’t have this in my life,'” a source told Us Weekly.

Ariana responded by confirming she had indeed been blocked. “I have never encouraged anything but forgiveness,” she wrote on social media. “I care deeply about Pete and his health and would never encourage any kind of mistreatment. I haven’t seen any of it because I’m blocked but I want you to know that I would never want or encourage that ever and you should know that.”

9 He’s Not That Into Acting

Despite having a decent acting repertoire to his name, Pete says that he’s not interested in being an actor forever. “The movie business is really hard,” he told Variety. “I don’t want to do that many movies. I would like to do a handful over a period of time.”

So far, Pete has done a variety of acting. He’s most known for his role on SNL since 2014, but has also starred in TV shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Friends of the People, The Jim Gaffigan Show, and The Guest Book. As for movies, he’s had roles in School Dance, Sober Companion, and Set It Up. In 2019, he has a variety of movies set to come out, including Big Time Adolescence, Going Places, and The Dirt.

Fingers crossed Pete doesn’t retire from acting anytime soon!

8 He’s Struggled A Lot With His Mental Health

Pete has been an advocate for mental health, having gone through his own struggles since early on in life. The star has opened up about how his father's story affected him greatly as a child and has seemingly blamed it for his BPD. Pete is open about how he continues to seek treatment.

“Some days he was in so much pain, he couldn’t get out of bed,” his mother, Amy Davidson, once told Variety. “I used to bribe him and say, ‘If you get up and try to make the day you can go to the city later and do stand-up.’ We had a deal! That’s how he made it through high school. He is one of the strongest and bravest people I know.”

7 He Covered Up His Ariana Grande Tattoo

During their tumultuous romance, both Ariana and Pete got various tattoos to honour one another. So when their romance came to an end, many fans were curious to know if and how they were going to cover up the permanent ink.

This past February, the Internet went wild when it appeared Pete had already covered up one of his Ariana tattoos (yes - he has multiple ones of her!), Hollywood Life reported. Both Ariana and Pete originally had the French saying ‘Mille Tendresse’ tattooed on the back of their necks, which means ‘a thousand tendernesses.’

But Pete has since covered his with the word ‘Cursed’ in huge font the original ink.

Some fans suspect he meant to throw shade at Ari with the new tattoo, such as by suggesting their relationship was somehow cursed. Yikes!

6 His Mom Grew To Love Ariana

While many fans were confused by Pete and Ariana’s quick engagement, one person who was supportive was his mom, Amy Waters Davidson. Though the famous mama was reportedly apprehensive of their relationship at first, sources say she quickly warmed up to the pop star.

“Pete’s mother was very nervous about his relationship with Ariana when they started dating,” a source told Us Weekly before their split. “She knows her son goes through manic episodes and thought he was rushing into a relationship and would wind up getting hurt.”

“Pete’s mom has grown to love Ariana and can see how much she loves Pete,” they continued. “It has gotten better now that she knows Ariana better.”

5 But People Bother His Mom About The Split

You can come for Pete, but don’t come for his mom!

Both Pete and Ariana have had their fair share of backlash since their whirlwind romance ended, but they’re not the only ones. Following their split, Pete has since opened up that his mom has been publicly teased on more than one occasion for the ill-fated relationship.

“Davidson told of how his mother, a school nurse, was taunted by a student singing Ms. Grande’s song ‘thank u, next,’ which was inspired in part by the breakup,” the New York Times reports. “When the school’s dean heard this, Mr. Davidson said, the student was summoned to his office and made to sing in front of four administrators — ‘retired cops with mustaches.’”

4 He Loves The Single Life

Although fans were heartbroken when Ariana and Pete called it quits, it sounds like it hasn’t been too hard on the celebrities. Shortly after their split, a source said the comedian was enjoying the single life and had even started dating again (and considering he’s currently romancing Kate Beckinsale, it looks like that’s true).

“[He’s] enjoying being single as he is focusing on himself,” the source told People magazine in December. The news came weeks after the celebrity had written worrying posts on social media, which prompted his friend Machine Gun Kelly to take him away on a vacation.

“I’m in the plane now on the way to see Pete,” Kelly wrote on social media following the incident. “Gonna make sure he’s good, I promise. Can’t have my boy in the darkness like that.”

3 He Went MIA From Social Media Post-Split

Ariana Grande fans weren’t very nice to Pete on social media following the couple’s split. The celebrity was receiving all sorts of negative comments on his posts, and it got so bad that he eventually deleted social media for a while. So, last December, the comedian wrote a post saying he was deleting his accounts to avoid anymore bullying.

“Pete feels it was in his own best interest for him to delete all of his social media at this point,” an insider told Hollywood Life about his decision. “He was fed up with dealing with all of the online bullies and trolls, and just wanted to cut out all the negativity from his life. Pete has always been very open about his struggles with mental health and thought showing his vulnerability would have helped spread awareness.”

2 He Refuses To Trash-Talk His Exes

Despite the backlash Pete received post-breakup, the celebrity has refused to speak ill of his ex-fiancée. How refreshing it is to see a celeb taking the high road!

“I’ve kept my mouth shut. Never mentioned any names, never said a word about anyone or anything. I'm trying to understand how when something happens to a guy the whole world just trashes him without any facts or frame of reference," he wrote on social media following their split, Glamour reports. "Especially in today's climate where everyone loves to be offended and upset, it truly is mind-boggling."

1 He’s Obsessed With Jack Nicholson

Pete's idol is fellow actor Jack Nicholson. The iconic actor is known for his roles in The Shining, Something’s Gotta Give, and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. Pete once even had the chance to meet Jack Nicholson thanks to a dinner invitation from a mutual friend, but he turned it down because he didn’t want to ruin his expectations.

He told Variety, “I’m a dork. I would rather Jack Nicholson not know I exist than try to be his pal. I feel like I saved myself. It’s a nice restaurant. I come in a Spider-Man T-shirt. My vibe is very different.”
