PBteen, aka Pottery Barn Teen, has followed up their Harry Potter Collection with a new collaboration. The upscale home goods brand, a subsidiary of Williams-Sonoma, has partnered with Benefit Cosmetics for a line inspired by 70s glam rock.

The collection features vintage motifs and motivational phrases all in glittery shades of rose gold. “The Benefit x PBteen Collection is mod with a nod to the 1970s! It’s inspired by the luxe glam rock aesthetics of the era with opposite forces fusing together in surprising ways,” said Shannon Clemence, Senior Vice President of Global Creative Services, Benefit Cosmetics. “The collection comes to life by pairing unexpected fabrics and materials that, when brought together, sing in perfect harmony – just like its’ influences from the glittering decade.”

A subsidiary of LVMH, Benefit Cosmetics, was founded in 1976 by twin sisters Jean and Jane Ford. After graduating from Indiana University, they appeared in commercials for Calgon bath products. The Ford sisters originally opened a boutique known as The Face Place in San Francisco's Mission District.

The first product they developed was a blush and rose lip tint. Since 1976, over 10 million bottles of the tint have been sold under the name Benetint. Benefit Cosmetics, with $1.5 billion dollars in annual sales, are now available at Debenhams, Sephora, Boots, and Arnotts, among others. Not bad for two sisters whose goal was to make $33 per day to break even.

PBteen, the first home retailer focused on teenagers, was launched in 2003. It’s parent company, Pottery Barn, which was founded 1949, found renewed success in the 1990s as a catalog brand, and as a pop culture reference on shows like Friends and Seinfeld. The first PBteen stores opened in Georgia, New York, and Chicago in 2009. The brand now includes PB Dorm, which is aimed at young students starting college life.

Though not an obvious collaboration, the Benefit x PBteen Collection, which features home furnishings, bedding, décor, beauty, vanity accessories, and wall art inspired by Art Deco design, combines Benefit’s bold and beautiful retro origins with PBteen’s luxury fabrics and carefully crafted details.

Fabrics include velour, velvet and metallic sateen as seen in items like the pink velvet Benefit Vanity Chair, the black, gold, and pink tufted Benefit Art Deco Diamond Rug, and the gold Benefit Round Marquee Mirror and gold Benefit Mirrored Beauty Cart. The furnishings pair perfectly with Benefit’s glam-inspired cosmetics.

“This first-of-its-kind partnership brings together Benefit’s playful beauty philosophy and signature aesthetic with PBteen’s trusted home furnishings design expertise,” said Jennifer Kellor, President, PBteen. “The Benefit x PBteen Collection represents a new take on our partnerships, and we are thrilled to share this spirited collection with design and beauty fans alike.”
