If you ran into the stunning 51-year-old Aussie actress walking down the street lately, you might not have even known it. Nicole Kidman changed her hair from her signature long pale blonde locks to a black and dark gray choppy bob. The youthful glow from her porcelain skin has been transformed into the weathered face of a much older person or perhaps someone who hasn't taken such great care of their skin as Kidman has.
In Destroyer, Kidman plays the part of Erin Bell, an LAPD cop who risked her personal safety to go undercover with a gang in order to expose their crimes and now must face the consequences for her risk. Kidman stars alongside Tatiana Maslany, Bradley Whitford, and Sebastian Stan.

According to Vanity Fair, this is the first photo released of Kidman from the film. Director Karyn Kusama said that the team had a definite look in mind for the character of Kidman's Detective Bell.
"We always knew that what we wanted her to look like was a real middle-aged woman with a past that she wears on her face," Kusama said. "With sun damage and sleep deprivation and stress and rage, just in her whole physical body."
Prosthetics helped the special effects makeup crew to achieve this look. Kusama said that the special effects show Bell as a woman who "wears her ugliness on the outside, all that smallness and bitterness."

Kidman, who is a mom to two grown children, Connor and Isabella with ex-husband, Tom Cruise, and daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret with country singer husband, Keith Urban, said that her two youngest daughters saw her in full makeup as Detective Erin Bell and called her a "granny."
"They say, 'you look like a granny,'" a laughing Kidman told Extra in an interview.
Destroyer debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and has been available in theatres since Christmas Day.
