Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown had a powerful message for bullies in her MTV Awards acceptance speech.

This 14-year-old actress is well on her way to stardom. Last year she was nominated for an Emmy for her role as Eleven in the smash Netflix drama, Stranger Things. And later in the year, she won the MTV Award for Best Actor, so don’t feel too bad at the near miss.

She also took home the golden popcorn statuette this year for the same role, this time winning Best Performance in a Show. Sadly, she couldn’t make it to the awards ceremony thanks to a busted knee. Doctors ordered her to stay in Atlanta, but she was still able to virtually attend the awards with a passionate acceptance speech that addressed her cause celebre: bullying.

After thanking the many people involved in the creation of Stranger Things, she launched straight into the heart of the matter. "Since I know there are many young people watching this--and even to the adults too--they could probably use the reminder that I was taught: If you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t say it.”

Since it was a prerecorded acceptance speech, Brown wasn’t able to pause for the crowd’s cheering at her words. “There should be no space in this world for bullying and I’m not going to tolerate it and neither should any of you. If you need a reminder of how worthy you are and to rise above the hate, message me on Instagram."

It was a great speech and one that earned her a lot of praise from fans and foes alike. But sadly it comes after a silly internet meme that targeted Brown and forced her to take down her Twitter account.

Last week, Brown disabled her Twitter after a homophobic meme surfaced that took old Instagram photos and replaced them with homophobic slurs. Many posts were tagged with #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown. Nobody is quite certain where the meme started, but some are speculating that it may have begun with one especially mean-spirited tweet

Her only recourse was to actually take down her Twitter account and acquiesce to the bullies’ demands. But she’s still on Instagram, albeit with locked comments for most of her posts.

She’s also got a spare Twitter account that she has dedicated to anti-bullying, but hasn’t updated it since last December. Maybe it’s time to dust that old standby off and give it another try?

Either way, we wish this young actress the best of luck in her quest against bullying!
