Meryl Streep has a long-term and fruitful relationship with the Oscars. Since 1979, the actress received 20 nominations, more than any other actor, and she won it three times. The actress has attended the ceremony for over three decades, and we can see her fashion evolution over the years. The last decade is undoubtedly her best moment in fashion.

Streep is one of the best actresses of all time, but she also knows how to choose a winning look for the red carpet. She is a fan of monochromatic looks, and sometimes she surprises us with details. Here are her 10 best moments on Oscar's red carpet.

10 Oscar 1979

1979 was the first time Meryl Streep stepped down the Academy Awards red carpet. The young actress received a best-supporting actress nomination for her role in The Deer Hunter. As we know, it was just the beginning of a long story with the Oscars. The gown she chose that year was one of the most beautiful she ever wore for the ceremony.

The actress chose a black dress with long sleeves and Swiss-dot style. Her hair was very simple, and she looked stunning. The gown is a timeless model, and she wore it again three decades later.

9 Oscar 2007

Meryl Streep wore this outfit during the Oscar ceremony in 2014. In case you don't remember, this is the year she was nominated again for her role as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. She decided to wear an all-black gown, but she upgraded it with this statement necklace. We have a feeling that Miranda would love it!

The actress wore Prada for the ceremony. But there was a small "scandal" on the choice of her outfit. According to Karl Lagerfeld, the creative designer of Chanel, the actress canceled a custom-made gown they wore, making for her because they would not pay her to wear it.

8 Oscar 2012

In 2012, Meryl Streep made a bold fashion decision. The actress chose a golden red-to-toe outfit, and her dress was designed by Lavin, which is also among our favorites. In 2012, Meryl Streep received an Oscar for her role in The Iron Lady, and her look is a huge contrast to the outfits of her severe character in that film. She looked like an elegant version of the award.

Although this gown is daring of comparing to other dresses on this list, they all have something in common: Meryl Streep loves monochromatic looks, and she looks fantastic in them.

7 Oscar 1980

When we look back at her pictures, white dresses seems to be one of Meryl Streep's favorite colors on the red carpet. Perhaps it is her lucky charm - she was wearing a white gown when she received an Oscar for the first time, for her role in Kramer vs. Kramer, in 1980.

She wore an all-white dress, matching a white jacket, both designed by Pauline Trigere. The gown had some colorful squares on the top and also at the jacket. The actress arrived wearing white gloves, but she let go of it at some point during the ceremony, which was a great decision.

6 Oscar 2006

In 2006, Meryl Streep chose this dramatic embellished violet gown for the ceremony. The skirt was covered with multiple details, and the cleavage was another bold choice for the actress, who hardly appears on red carpets with a cleavage. So it was a rare moment, and she looked stunning. That night, Streep was also among the presenters, and she was definitely dressed to impress. She matched it with fabulous earrings and a purple purse.

The magazines and specialized media also loved it. This is one of the dresses she wore that will never forget.

5 Oscar 1999

Although 1999 was not a good year for the Oscars when it comes to fashion, there were a few exceptions. Meryl Streep was one of them, and she showed up at the event wearing this magnificent Valentino gown and was one of the best-dressed stars of the night. Perhaps just Gwyneth Paltrow had a more stunning dress that day.

The pale lavender dress had multiple stones on the top and a flowing chiffon skirt. The actress matched it with a silver purse, proving again how much she loves monochromatic looks.

4 Oscar 2014

In 2014, the actress remembered us that less is more, and you can be super elegant with a black-and-white outfit. Once again, she wore a Lavin gown. It seems this is one of her favorite brands, and she wore it at least three times on the red carpets. And this is not the last time this name appears on this list.

The classy choice was one of our favorites. In 2015, Streep wore an almost identical outfit. It is a combination that never goes wrong.

3 Oscar 2013

We love when Meryl Streep surprises us at the red carpet and goes for something she would usually not wear. It seems the actress also loved the sparkling dress she wore in 2012, and she decided to wear another glittering gown. The dress was also designed by Lavin, who signed her 2012 outfit. The gown had countless silver sequins, and it looked gorgeous. Streep matched it with silver cuffs. One of her best fashion choices ever!

That year she was also among the presenters of the event, and she announced the best actor category.

2 Oscar 2018

Meryl Streep wore a red gown at the Academy Awards ceremony for the first time in 2018. The fantastic dress was designed by Christian Dior and had a plunging neckline and a little belt that made it look even more special. It was a custom-made gown, so it is impossible to find it in shops, and she is the only one to have this model. The actress matched it with drop earrings, a bracelet, and a pink clutch. She also wore elegant reading glasses. Streep also decided to wear an updo hairstyle, and she could not look more gorgeous that night.

1 Oscar 2010

Once again, Meryl Streep wore an all-white dress for the Oscars, and it was the most beautiful gown we have seen her wear on the red carpet. The Guardian described it as "exuding class," and we could not agree more. Unsurprisingly, the actress was one of the best-dressed stars of the night - and that year, the actresses went the extra mile to look amazing.

This was also another year she got a best-actress nomination for her role in Julie and Julia. She might not have won the Oscar that night, but we can't ever forget this gown.
