Meghan Markle enlisted her mom, Doria Ragland, as her sidekick at her latest official royal engagement. The yoga instructor from Los Angeles was beaming with pride as she joined her famous daughter for the launch of her first solo project since becoming a Duchess: a charity recipe book for Grenfell Tower victims.

Doria, whose credentials also include a psychology degree and a social work license, looked the part as she smiled, and warmly hugged the women of Grenfell. With American simplicity, she even introduced herself to people as “Meg’s mom”. We are, however, certain that everyone already knew who she was.

Oh, Harry was there too. But apart from a tender moment caught on camera smoothing Meghan’s hair and stealing samosas, the Prince let his wife and mother-in-law take the lead, as a proper English gentleman. This was, after all, Meghan’s moment.

Doria looked stunning dressed head-to-toe in beige, with a shawl around her slender shoulders. She was, according to sources, “head over heels with pride” for her daughter, as she watched Meghan help the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen serve a dish of green rice, make chapatis and turn koftas on a grill under a large tent.

The Duchess of Sussex was no doubt emotional about the cookbook launch, which she described in her speech as “a tremendous labor of love”. She even revealed that as a newcomer in London, the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen, (who make up a very diverse group), made her feel immediately embraced with their warmth and kindness.

No wonder Meghan wanted to share this unique moment with her supportive mom. But the question remains: Will Doria hang around for more royal engagements? There’s no doubt that her mom’s presence benefits the Duchess of Sussex. Moreover, after recently going through a rough patch with dad Thomas Markle and half-siblings, Doria is probably the only remaining family member that Meghan can truly trust.

There have been rumblings, according to Vogue, that Doria has been preparing for a while now to relocate to London, and that she is thrilled at the prospect. We hate unfounded rumors, but with all eyes and ears fixed on an impending royal baby announcement, this would make perfect sense.
