Much has been discussed about Meghan Markle’s fashion choices, but what about the new Duchess’ beauty regime? After many years in Hollywood, Meghan no doubt has plenty of beauty secrets hidden up her sleeve, yet a few are now becoming public knowledge.

In an interview with E! News, Daniel Martin, the Duchess’ makeup artist, says Meghan frequently uses "skincare products" as a replacement for highlighters, explaining that she actually trusts a common drugstore beauty lotion as a natural way of highlighting her skin.

"Before highlighters, you would do highlighting with Aquaphor," Martin said. "Aquaphor will give you that same texture, especially in a photo [when applied] on the high points of the face."

Aquaphor, which has been available in the US for the past 90 years, is an over-the-counter skin care ointment manufactured by Beiersdorf Inc., a German company. Aquaphor is available in four product ranges: There are two skin protectant ointments: Aquaphor Original Ointment, which is used as a compounding agent and Aquaphor Advanced Therapy Healing Ointment. Other product ranges include Aquaphor Lip Repair and Lip Repair + Protect SPF 30, and Aquaphor Baby.

Martin says he doesn’t use Aquaphor as often as before since he’s found other products. "I don't use a highlighter product per se, but if I do, I'll lay it down with Dior—they came out with the incredible highlighting palette—and what I'll do is I'll take the Honest Beauty Balm and lay it on top of it," he said. "It intensifies the highlight, but because of the texture of the magic balm it gives you that luminosity like you just applied moisturizer."

Though Martin may be switching things up, Meghan does have a few rules to follow. Firstly, the Duchess is not allowed to use brightly colored nail polish as a member of the royal family.

Meghan's former makeup artist Lydia Sellers, who worked with her on Suits from 2015 to 1017, revealed recently that the Duchess is also loyal to Maybelline mascara, an affordable drugstore brand.

"Meghan actually introduced me to Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara," Sellers said. She keeps it stocked in her kit at all times on Meghan's recommendation. "This mascara really helps to amplify your lashes and polish off the entire look. It's great for full volume and lengthening, the formula is super hydrating. I love how it builds, and that the price point is accessible for all budgets."

According to Sellers, Meghan "is very self-assured when it comes to what she likes in a beauty routine."

Other products Meghan swears by are Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder, which is ideal for oily, dry, or sensitive skin, and leaves your skin looking beautifully polished; Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Very Victoria; Laura Mercier Illuminating Primer, and Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment with SPF 15.
