Chanel has been a fashion powerhouse since its conception back in 1909. Focusing initially on haute couture clothing, it wasn't long before the brand took off and expanded into makeup in the 20's. Since then, it's maintained its reputation as one of the must-haves of the elite, from signature bags to signature lipsticks. Chanel is now upping the ante and forging ahead with the modern world, releasing a new mascara with a 3D printed brush.

Le Volume Revolution is a volumizing mascara that launched this month, featuring a campaign fronted by their ambassador, Twilight actress Kristen Stewart. According to Vogue the formula is to die for, enriched with vitamins and a combination of rice wax and beeswax, as well as volumizing polymers that both nourish and define. While the mascara liquid itself is something to write home about, it's the wand that's making the waves in the beauty industry.

3D printing has been on the rise over the last few years as technology has advanced, making it more accessible to companies worldwide. The 3D printing of the wand has given Chanel an advantage, allowing them to create a tool that is perfectly designed for the delivery of mascara. It certainly knocks the traditional fiber brushes out of the top spot. The press release from Chanel HQ calls the "honeycomb" design of the wand ideal for the maximal absorption of the mascara, meaning that even and buildable layers of the product can be applied to the lashes. Its hourglass shape isn't unlike things we've seen before though, with brands like L'Oreal and Marc Jacobs also opting for a curvy wand.

If you simply can't wait to get your lashes on one of these beauties, you'll have to hold your horses. The product is currently only available in the UK, with a scheduled worldwide rollout in September. According to Allure, the design is the world's first ever largely distributed 3D printed mascara wand, with the wand's technology being patented by Chanel over 10 years ago in 2007. Chanel supposedly tried 100 different variations before settling on the final product.
