Everyone loves red lipsticks by MAC, and now, these universally flattering shades are getting a fun, seasonal packaging update. The new MAC Lunar New Year collection will include several old favorites and a few new products, and it’s sure to please anyone looking to spruce up their look in the coming year.
So, what is the significance of the Lunar New Year? This holiday marks the beginning of the New Year on the traditional Chinese calendar. It’s sometimes referred to as the “spring festival,” but it takes place in the winter. Next year, the Lunar New Year will fall on February 5th.
Which products will be part of the Lunar New Year collection? It will include three super popular shades of red lipstick: Ruby Woo, Russian Red, and Lady Danger. It will also include two new red lipsticks, called Lucky in Love and Lotus Light. A Powder Blush Duo in the complementary shades Melba and Love Cloud, as well as a powder blush brush, will also be a part of the collection.

And what’s so special about the packaging? While the traditional sleek, black Mac packaging is so classy, these products will be upgraded with metallic and floral designs. They will definitely stand out in your makeup bag—the packaging is just as pretty as the pigments themselves.
The MAC Lunar New Year collection will be officially released in January 2019—a specific date has not been announced yet. However, if you want to own these products with this snazzy packaging, you’ll want to move quickly: it is a limited edition collection. Naturally, famous shades like Ruby Woo aren’t going anywhere any time soon, but you won’t always be able to get them with the Lunar New Year packaging. The lipsticks will be priced around $18.50 each.
These shades of red will be absolutely perfect for a special Valentine’s Day date, so if you want to impress someone you’ve got your eye on before the holidays roll around, it might just be the right time to treat yourself.
