Lionel Richie is revealing how he truly feels about his youngest daughter's relationship with Scott Disick.
Lionel Richie spoke with the Daily Telegraph this week about his daughter, Sofia Richie, and her latest fling with Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, Scott Disick. Sofia, who is 19-years-old, was first spotted with Disick at the Cannes Film Festival last May 2017, where rumors of their budding relationship first sparked.
At first, Sofia denied any reports regarding the two dating, and took to her Twitter to let folks know that “Scott and I are just homies.” As nearly a year has now gone by, the two are confirmed dating and it isn’t sitting all that well with the “All Night Long” singer.
The seemingly healthy relationship between the reality star and model was confirmed during an awkward conversation between Scott and Kris Jenner on an episode of Keeping Up. With a 15-year age gap between Sofia and Scott, Lionel was quick to tell the Australian publication that his daughter is dating Scott temporarily, and is going through “just a phase” right now with their relationship. Ouch!
The singer continued by saying “when you’re 19 you know everything. Is it going to be for life? I don’t know. But for right now it’s just a phase and I’m going to stand real still in the corner, get me a good drink and not make too much noise.” Seems a little late for not making any noise and comments like that must sting a bit!
Although we understand Lionel’s stance on their relationship, and his response is one any protective father would have, it may not be the most supportive thing to say publicly about your own daughter.
Lionel may have come at their relationship in a harsh way, but he did have some positive comments about Scott. “From what I met of him he’s a very nice guy… I told Sofia I will have no opinion. I’ll continue to be my cheerful self and move on,” said the 68-year-old hitmaker. It doesn’t seem like being his “cheerful self” would lead to saying such jarring remarks about his daughter’s relationship.
Although we’re sure Lionel is just looking out for his youngest daughter, we’re also sure there are other ways of going about it that don’t involve labeling your daughters relationship “just a phase.”
