Lady Gaga finally confirmed her engagement to Hollywood agent Christian Carino during her speech at Elle’s 25th annual Women in Hollywood celebration in Los Angeles on Monday, October 15th. In her emotional speech, Gaga thanked her “fiancé Christian” among a handful of others for believing in her and inspiring her. This was the first time that the triple threat publicly acknowledged the engagement, which has been rumored for the past year.

At this time, it is unclear when exactly Carino asked the pop star to marry him. However, Gaga has been sporting a beautiful pink ring on her left-hand ring finger for several months. According to Harper’s Bazaar, the ring appears to be a 6-7 carat pink sapphire surrounded by a 3-4 carat diamond halo. In an interview with E! News, Andrew Brown, President of WP Diamonds, revealed that the stone may specifically be a Padparadscha sapphire—one of the rarest sapphires in the world—which would price the ring between $300,000-$400,000. The ring also looks very similar to the engagement sparkler Kate Middleton and Princes Diana once wore, except that ring was blue. Could the royal ring have been the inspiration?

The couple was first seen together in February 2017 at the Super Bowl. For the most part, their relationship has stayed off the radar, except for a few documented outings. Carino was spotted alongside the A Star Is Born actress during her 31st birthday dinner party at Gjelina in Venice, California. The pair also vacationed together in the Hamptons last summer.

In September last year, Gaga let the ‘L’ word slip out during an interview with Page Six. She revealed that, after a rainy show that month, Carino was waiting backstage to make sure Gaga was alright. “The best part about being in love with someone is having them there to catch you if you fall,” she said.

Gaga had previously been engaged to Chicago Fire actor Taylor Kinney in 2015 after five years of dating, but the couple broke off the engagement about a year later. She was spotted with Carino a few months afterward.

In addition to confirming her engagement with just three words, Gaga’s moving acceptance speech also touched on the topics of sexual assault and mental illness. She also asked that women lift up each other’s voices and spread kindness throughout the world. The full transcript can be found on Elle’s website.
