Kristen Stewart has come to her ex-boyfriend (and former Twilight co-star) Robert Pattinson’s defense after he received flack for being cast as Batman.
Some folks have been vocal about their disappointment the English actor is set to portray the superhero in the next instalment of the franchise. But Kristen doesn’t seem to think there’s anyone else better suited for the role. During an appearance at the Toronto Film Festival, she had some sweet words for her former lover.
“Oh man, I feel like he’s the only guy who could play that part,” Kristen gushed to Variety. “I am so happy for him, it is crazy… I’m very, very happy about that. I heard [the news] and was like, ‘Oh man!’ Yeah, it’s awesome.” She added that Rob also has the “perfect cheekbones” to portray Bruce Wayne on the big screen.
It was only confirmed that Rob had been selected for the role in August, though rumours had been circulating since May. Speaking to Variety, the actor said it’s been like a dream come true. “I’d had Batman in my mind for a while,” he said.
As of what squeezing into the iconic suit has been like, Rob said, “You do feel very powerful immediately…Once you’ve got [the suit] on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.’”
Rob and Kristen famously dated from 2009 to 2013 after meeting while playing onscreen lovers Edward Cullen and Bella Swan in the Twilight saga.
However, their break-up was messy after photos exposing Kristen’s affair with director Rupert Sanders were published. Although Kristen issues a public apology directed at Rob, the two parted ways shortly after.
The former couple have been relatively quiet on the topic of their relationship since their dramatic split, but everything they have said has been only positive. Kristen also opened up about Rob in a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, saying, “When me and Rob were together, we did not have an example to go by…so much was taken from us that, in trying to control one aspect, we were just like, ‘No, we will never talk about it. Never. Because it’s ours.’”
