On Monday, Kim Kardashian underwent a ‘skin tightening’ treatment at a Beverly Hills spa to deal with her psoriasis. The 38-year-old reality star shared a video of the procedure, which was done at Dr. Raj Kanodia’s office and administered by Karla Lumunsad RN.
Dr. Kanodia, a plastic surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty, is known as the “the King of the Hollywood nosejob.” Dr. Kanodia was responsible for Britney Spears’ transformation. Kardashian’s treatment, however, didn’t involve any surgical alterations. Instead, she underwent a laser treatment, which uses radiofrequency technology to notably tighten skin laxity.
Apparently, over the weekend, Kardashian experienced a psoriasis flare-up. She had posted a selfie that showed how the condition had spread to her face with red patches around her eyes and cheeks. Though it’s unclear how the treatment helps reduce or prevent psoriasis, the office promises “a customized experience unique to your anatomical needs and personal cosmetic goals.” They also emphasize “safety first” in order to avoid complications.
Kardashian, who revealed her psoriasis diagnosis during an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s in 2011, has been very open about the illness. According to the Mayo Clinic, psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that accelerates the life cycle of skin cells, which results in rapid cell build-up on the surface of the skin. The extra skin cells form scales and red patches that can be itchy and occasionally painful.
Other treatment options for psoriasis include steroid cream or other medicated creams, oral medications, and light therapy, which requires three sessions a week for two to three months followed by maintenance therapy. In addition, excimer lasers, which target localized areas of the skin with ultraviolet, help control areas of mild to moderate psoriasis without damaging healthy skin around them. Targeted laser therapy is similar to traditional light therapy but shows results in fewer sessions with stronger doses of light that are able to reach deeper into the affected skin.
Yesterday, Kardashian seemed a bit more relaxed as she cuddled with her kids, as well as her sister Kourtney and grandma MJ, on the couch. She also enjoyed a reading with Theresa Caputo, aka, the Long Island Medium.
