The Walking Dead star Khary Payton is standing up for his co-star Lauren Cohan with a powerful message to AMC when it comes to pay negotiations for the cast.

Cohan is fighting for her worth, as so many women in Hollywood are doing these days, and telling the powers that be behind The Walking Dead she deserves to get paid. She is in the middle of a battle with the network, as she discusses her payment for season 9 of the hit show.

According to Hello Giggles, the actress was all set to stick around and play Maggie, until she started receiving low salary offers from AMC network. Now she is holding her ground to be paid the money she is worth. Sadly, she isn’t even asking to be paid as much as her male costars, but she is not going to accept an offer she considers to lowball her talent.

Her cast mates are taking notice of her battle for higher pay and showing their support, especially Khary Payton. He recently used social media to send a simple but powerful message to the higher ups at the network. “Pay the woman!” His message quickly went viral, as the comments section became flooded with support for Cohan and Payton.

Pay the woman.

There has been no response yet from the network regarding the viral post or the media attention Cohan’s pay dispute is causing. The actress is in high demand. So should AMC decide to not pay her what she is worth, Cohan has plenty of other options. She has been cast in the upcoming ABC pilot Whiskey Cavalier, which is also set to star Scandal’s Scott Foley. If that series gets picked up then perhaps it won’t matter what happens with her The Walking Dead negotiations.

Khary Payton is demanding his friend and costar Lauren Cohan get paid what she is worth. Payton standing up for his costar is a prime example of how the men in Hollywood can and need to support women as they fight for equal pay. Men and women must fight this fight together for any real change to happen. Only time will tell what AMC will choose to do, but kudos to Cohan and Payton for standing up and speaking out.
