Every time fashion mogul Karl Lagerfeld puts his name on a product, it's sure to get attention, and his recent tandem with Australian makeup company ModelCo is no exception.
Under the Lagerfeld flag, the line of some 50 items, most of which include lipstick and eyeshadow, will likely occupy plum space at Nordstrom retailers starting May 14th. Not surprisingly, some of them will cost as a pretty penny, considering "pretty" is the prime objective of purchasers as it is.
Perhaps Lagerfeld has the notion that the cosmetics, dubbed "The Karl Lagerfeld for ModelCo Collection", will gain in value over time, since the line is going to be available on a one-time-only basis. Once it's gone, game over, which may motivate customers to purchase the products. But as collectibles, watch exchanges go through the roof in the future. Adding to the novelty is that Lagerfeld has seldom dipped his colloquial brush into the makeup market, making this venture a must-grab opportunity for consumers with money to burn.
For openers, the eyeshadow palettes, inspired by Lagerfeld's pet cat Choupette, go for $65. The lip glosses and lipstick products will retail at $28, which includes a bonus set of four lip-top coats, a built-in mirror and an LED light for those in-the-dark touchups. If you have to grab anything Lagerfeld, but are forced to dig for change, you can get away with getting his lip balm for $15. Others with easier access to a few sawbucks can get his cat-inspired eyeshadow for or the other lip products that are higher in price. Additional Lagerfeld-branded wares are makeup brushes including a spanking kabuki brush, mascara, eyeliners and even some eyebrow products.
Still got some cash left? Then for an additional $195, invest in the eye-catching minaudière (Okay, handbag to anglophones and those less high-falutin types), that includes five lip items.
Lagerfeld says the products are for folks of any age, especially young people. He also admitted that with the partnership with ModelCo, he was more hands-on than in previous cosmetic experiences, considering he had never done a line as comprehensive as this one.
If the buzz over what's coming out from Lagerfeld is any indication, it sounds like it won't be the last time he launches a line like this.
