Rising star model Kaia Gerber announced yesterday that she would be joining Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, or YSL Beauty, as a Global Makeup Ambassador—a huge deal for the rookie runway girl, who debuted in September last year. At 17 years old, Gerber is now YSL Beauty’s youngest face. She will front a number of campaigns for the brand, following in the footsteps of singer-actress Zoe Kravitz, whom YSL Beauty tapped as a global ambassador last summer, and Halsey, one of the brand’s collaborators.
Gerber and YSL Beauty both revealed the news on their Instagram accounts on October 1st. The brand posted a series of portraits of Gerber sporting smokey-eyed makeup done by Tom Pecheux, YSL’s global beauty director. “YSL BEAUTÉ GLOBAL MAKEUP AMBASSADOR @kaiagerber! Show her some 🖤 in the comments. #yslbeauty #kaiagerber #makeup #new #ambassador,” the caption read. Gerber also posted one of the shots on her Instagram with the caption, “so happy to join the @yslbeauty family.”

Starting in January, Gerber will be the face of Rouge Volupté Shine moisturizing lipstick in a series of photos by David Sims, according to WWD. She will also appear in advertisements for Touche Éclat and Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils. The brand’s international general manager, Stephan Bezy, told Vogue that Gerber is a “blossoming talent” and a “stunning beauty.” According to Bezy, Gerber’s values align perfectly with that of YSL Beauty.
2018 has been a busy year for Gerber—the announcement of her newest gig came just one month after Gerber collaborated with Karl Lagerfeld to design a streetwear collection. The collection melded together Gerber’s relaxed L.A. style with Lagerfeld’s Parisian chic looks. The result was a line of leather jackets, studded gloves, cropped sweatshirts, and classy black dresses with elements of both designers etched into them.
Gerber also fronted a campaign for Marc Jacobs Beauty two years ago, where she dressed as a lion goddess and modeled makeup done by Diane Kendal. Since then, Gerber has become widely known in the fashion world (and not just because she is the spitting image of her model mother, Cindy Crawford). She has been in high demand to walk in every major fashion show of the season and appeared in campaigns for Chanel, Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, and Versace. The 17-year-old is said to be dominating the fashion world ahead of seasoned models Kendall Jenner and the Hadid sisters.
