Supermodel Kaia Gerber, daughter of Cindy Crawford, teamed up with Chanel’s creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, to design an exclusive collection that blends their opposite styles together. KARL LAGERFELD X KAIA will launch at the end of the month, in just a few days.
The Instagram-friendly capsule collection, as Elle referred to it, will blend Gerber’s signature California casual style that often includes cropped hoodies and cutout dresses with Lagerfeld’s traditional yet edgy looks (some of his work includes fingerless gloves and nipped-in blazers). The collaboration was first announced in January 2018, but Lagerfeld did not begin spreading the word on his social media accounts until the beginning of the summer. Gerber has not yet publicly posted about the project; however, she did model the pieces herself for the lookbook, which was shot in L.A.
Some pieces to look forward to in the collection are: a bright red, cropped, Gerber-inspired hoodie with KARL X KAIA scrawled across the front in bold cursive ($205); leather fingerless gloves infused with studs, a distinct nod towards Lagerfeld’s work ($115); and a leather little black dress with double thin straps, side cut-outs, and a front zipper, which is a Lagerfeld-chic look with a Gerber twist ($465). There will also be a few accessories included in the line, such as monogram chokers, over-the-knee socks, velvet bags, and chain-embellished hats, according to Marie Claire. The full collection is set to launch on August 30th.

The 16-year-old supermodel only just made her debut in September this year when she walked the catwalk for 18 brands (including Calvin Klein, Prada, and Versace), but Lagerfeld reportedly singled Gerber out as a rising talent months in advance, according to Women’s World Daily. Her first season ended with her opening for Lagerfeld’s Chanel Spring/Summer 2018 show in October, a spot that most seasoned models would dream of. She is said to be dominating the fashion world, overtaking Kendall Jenner and the Hadid sisters. This collaboration with Lagerfeld is considered a huge honor for Gerber so early in her career.
The KARL LAGERFELD X KAIA collection will launch on karl.com and one other e-commerce retailer on August 30th for two weeks before rolling out to other international shopping sites. The launch will align with fall events in Los Angeles, New York, and Paris.
