Just when we thought that fashion couldn’t get edgier, Vogue shakes the fashion tree by suggesting that jeans and a sweater are the perfect fashion choices for this fall.
The good news is that we don’t need to scramble through our closets at the crack of dawn, trying to match our animal-print skirts with oversized sweaters to be fashion relevant. Opting for a pair of jeans and a sweater is the affordable perfect outfit for this fall, according to Vogue fashionistas, who praise its versatility and chicness.
Moreover, the combo of classic denim and sweaters is the perfect transition outfit from summer’s lightweight florals and sandals to full-blown winter gear of chunky knits and knee-high boots. By transition outfit we mean these few awkward fashion weeks after summer is gone, when we are not really sure what to wear and what the weather really is like. Vogue gives us the green light to slip into what feels natural (and let’s face it, also the outfit that many of us would go for anyway): a pair of classic blue jeans and a must-have knit. Above all, it spares us feelings of guilt about our fashion sense.
As someone who has lived in this timeless ensemble most of my adult life, I’m thrilled by the news. And I’m also happy that fashion, having embraced utilitarian jumpsuits, vintage pleated skirts and socks and sandals, no longer spurns this quintessential combination.
However, it’s important to remember that this isn’t an excuse to start living in your jeans. This fall offers some gorgeous styles for self-respecting fashionistas, from high-waisted midi skirts and floor-grazing prairie dresses to plaid blazers matched with relaxed, full-length straight jeans. (you guessed it right, ‘mom jeans’ are on their way out of style, according to Vogue again.)
Other major trends for this fall that we thought would never see the light of day again (but were proved wrong) include oversized suits, colorful tights, as well as animal print in every color and shape imaginable. And let’s not forget that cozy is key this season, so anything painful like painful shoes or ungenerous winter jackets is definitely not recommended.
