As someone who’s been obsessed with makeup and skincare since I was fifteen, I jumped at the chance to try Kim Kardashian’s infamous beauty routine. While I already feel like a queen, I was about to experience what it feels like to get the VIP treatment for real. Not only would I be testing out products I never thought I’d get the chance to try in my entire life, but I was also going to mimic Kim’s entire routine from A to Z. Or should I say, from Burt’s Bees to Guerlain? That’s right. The powerful beauty mogul isn’t afraid to mix high-end formulas with ultra-affordable products.
Kim Kardashian may be busy running her own makeup empire, taking care of her babies, and even shooting the upcoming episodes of KUWTK, but she always makes time to get facials, microdermabrasion, and follows a thorough routine that helps prep the skin for her makeup. After all, being the face of KKW beauty means she’s got to maintain her status, as her face is one of the most recognizable ones in the beauty industry. Thankfully, she’s surrounded by incredible professionals that help keep her face camera-ready 24/7. Now, Kim’s got one of the most intensive skin care and beauty routines on the planet. And on top of that, her full routine totals over $3,000. So today, we’re going to explore her iconic $3k beauty routine, and see if it actually transformed my face, or if it's just a bunch of hoopla.
21 I Started Off By Washing All The Junk Off My Face With The Super Affordable Burt's Bees Cleansing Oil
Even though Kim’s beauty routine doesn’t include a ton of drugstore products, I was surprised to find out that she uses this aromatic cleansing oil from Burt’s Bees ($15.99 at Ulta).
Not only is it super affordable, but it smells incredible.
This cleanser is oil-based, and it’s made with a mix of coconut and Argan oil. Plus, it’s super easy to apply. You simply need to put a little bit of product on your dry hands, do a little gentle massage on your face (which should also be dry!), then, you wet your hands and massage your face once more, rinsing off any dirt, bacteria, and any type of residue on your skin.
20 Then, I Tried The Millennial-Approved Double Cleansing Method And Went With The Lancer Cleanser
Double cleansing has been practiced for ages in Japan and it helps to remove dead skin cells, old makeup, and purify the skin. So I went ahead and applied the Lancer Cleanser, ($55) right after I showered. I used this product to remove leftover residue from the oil I just applied. I had originally purchased this product as I’m a huge fan of Dr. Harold Lancer, who created this wonderful skincare line and is a board-certified dermatologist who works with the most recognizable celebrities in the industry. The Lancer Cleanser is packed with moisture-rich hydrators, amino acids, and skin-smoothing agents that automatically left my skin feeling fresh and healthy.
19 Now It Was Time To Lather My Face With The Anastasia Beverly Hills Hydrating Oil - And It Smelled So Good!
Up until now, I thought I was high maintenance, but Kim’s beauty routine kind of makes mine look like I’ve been washing my face with a basic bar of soap.
I decided it was time to try out some of her favorite toners and serums.
Out of the many products she includes in her demanding skincare routine, I went for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Hydrating Oil, ($64) which did wonders for my dry skin. This beauty is a natural oil that quickly absorbs into the skin. It's made out of Jojoba seed oil, Black currant oil, and Omega 6. It’s also packed with Rosehip oils, which help smooth and moisturize the skin. On to the next step!
18 Now It Was Time To Play In The Big Leagues - I Got To Try Kim's Iconic $640 Cream By La Mer
Kim’s list of steps isn’t available, after all, the girl probably likes to keep a few things to herself. So I had a little chat with a few dermatologist friends of mine. They helped me create a list of steps and ways I could use all these products without overlapping them. After double cleansing, I prepped the skin Kim Kardashian-style with the Genaissance de La Mer The Serum Essence by La Mer. It almost felt like I was wearing a super lightweight BB cream that covered every pore. I wasn’t really expecting this serum to change my face, but since it retails for a whopping $640, I was really hoping it’d do something that’d justify the price, and it did!
17 Things Just Kept Getting More Over-The-Top, As Now I Needed To Moisturize My Lips And Eyes With Guerlain's Super Expensive Orchidée Impériale Cream
Before doing the rest of my face, I needed to make sure my skin was prepped and moisturized to perfection. Kim’s "boujee" list included the Orchidée Impériale Eye & Lip Contour Cream by Guerlain.
And since this little miracle elixir retails for $200, I made sure to get a few contacts at Sephora to hook me up with some samples that would last long enough for me to test out Kim’s uber expensive routine.
This lip and eye contour cream is infused with Jasmin extracts, Hyaluronic acid, and caffeine extract, which helps depuff the eyes.
It’s also formulated with the power of orchids, hence the name.
16 So Far, I Had Almost Spent Half Of Kim's Beauty Budget, And I Was About To Splurge Some More With Dr. Barbara Sturm SPF 50 Sun Drops
Kim adores her dermatologists who have crafted the perfect beauty routine that’s got the Hollywood stamp of approval. The first thing a dermatologist will advise their patients is to never leave the house without some SPF to protect the skin from the damaging effects of the sun. One of Kim’s favorites is the Dr. Barbara Sturm Sun Drops ($145), so I went ahead applied it, and as I predicted, it’d make foundation go on smoother. This highly innovative skin serum provides SPF 50 protection, and it’s also formulated with Cassia Extract, Beta-Glucan, and Vitamin E, which help promote the regeneration of damaged cells, and it smells heavenly.
15 Before Doing My Full-Blown Kim K Glam, I Needed To Moisturize The Skin On My Body With The Bio-Oil, Which She Swears By
Kim Kardashian has a pretty hefty price tag on her face, but when it’s time to moisturize and take care of the skin on her body, she relies on a great drugstore body oil that only costs $15. No, seriously!
According to a post on her app, the Bio-Oil made her skin sparkle, and according to her, it also helped her get rid of stretch marks.
"It just makes my skin glow, and it has so many benefits," she raved on her post. "If you have a scar or stretch marks, you just massage the oil onto the area two times a day." Its formula contains Calendula, Rosemary, Lavender and Chamomile oils.
14 I Took Some Hints From Her Makeup Artist And Blended My Concealer To Perfection
Kim is a true pioneer when it comes to makeup trends. All it takes is for her to upload a Snapchat photo or post a pic on Instagram and the world is ready to try anything she’s dabbling in. But she didn’t build Rome in a day… or all on her own! Makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic focuses on making the skin as flawless as possible. But the only way to achieve this “photoshopped-in-real-life” effect is to spend a ton of time blending and sculpting. So instead of applying foundation first, he starts out with some concealer under the eyes, blends it away, and then he applies liquid foundation. And there’s a reason why…
13 Mario Believes There's A Super Easy Trick That Illuminates Your Face And Stops Concealer From Creasing
The NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is only $30. I was already familiar with its creamy, full-coverage consistency. Plus, the multi-action formula helps blur out any imperfections on the skin while also retaining some moisture. This NARS concealer is infused with a Multi-Active Botanical Blend. It's also full of grape seed extract, vitamin E, and magnolia bark extract. Mario Dedivanovic told Elle,
“I like to start out with a small amount of product and build as I go because applying too much at once can appear cakey and accentuate lines on the face.”
I followed his advice and was surprised by how natural and glowy my skin was starting to look.
12 Now I Wanted To Even Out My Skin Tone, So I Went With The Very "Boujee" Crema Nuda Tinted Cream By Armani
Among Kim’s not-so-secret arsenal of beauty products, I found a tinted cream that’d allow me to get some coverage without caking it up. I’m not really into thick or heavy-looking foundations, so I went with one of Kim’s faves, the Crema Nuda Tinted Cream by Armani ($200!). I knew that Armani would've made sure to create a formula that felt like second skin. As I predicted, they did. It was the perfect way to get a little color and blur out my “problem areas,” all while improving the skin’s luminosity. This high-end, premium skincare perfector treats, corrects, and smoothes out the skin, all at the same time.
11 In Order To Define My Brows A La Kim Kardashian, I Needed To Keep Them Looking Feminine Like Mario Suggests
Kim’s makeup artist knows a thing or two about brows, and when he’s working on Kim's eyebrows, he always makes sure to keep them bold, beautiful, and defined. At the same time, he believes it’s important to keep them super feminine.
He first combs her eyebrows with a spoolie to reveal their real shape.
That allows him to follow Kim’s natural lines and cover any areas that may need a bit more color. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz is only $21 and allows you to work super tiny and short strokes on sparse areas that need them the most. So I did just that.
10 One Of Kim's Favorite Palettes Is Kylie Cosmetics Burgundy Palette - Also A Favorite Of Mine
Also among her favorites, this $42 warm-toned palette is definitely Kim’s secret weapon. The color selection works on most skin tones and comes with 9 easily blendable eyeshadows that range from light brown mattes to "in-your-face" pigmented reds and metallic coppers that allow you to play around and build them up. I absolutely adored the consistency of these pressed-powder shadows, particularly because I was able to layer them and they never looked patchy or overdone. Once I was done creating my burgundy smoky eye look, it was time to finish it off with a little orange-based golden glimmer that would add a little extra “pow”.
9 I “Unzipped” Kim’s Hidden Trick And Added Some Light To My Lids With Lorac's Unzipped Gold Eyeshadow Palette
The moment I saw the color range in this palette, I was hooked. Lorac’s Unzipped Gold Eyeshadow Palette is also only $42, and it’s worth every single penny. It works wonders with dark, medium brown, and ultra-pale skin tones, which makes this a total hit. Plus, it comes with 10 sun-kissed, glowy eyeshadows you can mix and match.
I decided to go for “Unlocked” and “Unpredictable” and applied both shades in the center of my lid.
That created a halo effect that made my eyes pop. Now, I was starting to look and feel like a long-lost Kardashian sister.
8 To Frame The Eyes, I Chose A Super High-End Gem: The Volume Mascara By Kevyn Aucoin Which Finished Off The Look
The innovative Volume Mascara by Kevyn Aucoin is $28, and it helps volumize, lengthen, and define your lashes in a very natural way. The formula is infused with volume-filling fibers and super bold pigments that add some extra pizzazz. My lashes end up resembling a super natural pair of wispy falsies, which is what every girl dreams of. Thanks to its tubing technology, you get to coat every single lash, giving it a ton of definition, with no clumps and zero fallout. The application was pretty simple, and I didn’t even have to add two layers. Best of all? They ended up looking like falsies but I didn't have to waste any time dealing with eyelash glue!
7 My Face Was Looking Flawless But Now I Needed To Define My Cheekbones With KKW's Beauty Cream And Contour Kit
Among Kim’s arsenal of beauty makeup products, the following one will come as no surprise: She absolutely adores her KKW Beauty Creme Contour And Highlight Kit ($48.)
I had never tried it up until now, as I usually stay away from cream contour products, as things can go really wrong, real fast.
Well, unless you’re a master blender! But I was surprised at how easy these contour and highlight sticks were to use. I used a beauty blender, at first, (Kim’s favorite, the Original Beautyblender, which retails for $20) but then simply blended it with my fingertips. I was going for a naturally sculpted look that day.
6 All I Needed To Put Together This Kim Kardashian-Inspired Look Was A Little Touch Of Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick In "Kim K.W."
I went with another high-end product off of Kim’s list, the Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick in Kim K.W. ($34) It added some extra dimension to my lips while moisturizing and keeping them hydrated. The formula is infused with a “secret antioxidant from the Lipstick Tree” and comes with a blend of waxes that leave your lips cashmere-soft. They weren't lying. I'm starting to think there's a reason why high-end products cost a little more! The formula is designed to protect your lips from UV rays while hydrating and leaving them 100% kissable and soft. The shade “Kim K.W.” is the perfect bare-toned shade for any makeup look.
5 I Needed To Set It All, So I Went With Mario's Favorite Setting Spray, The Aromatic Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist
Mario’s technique to set Kim’s makeup look seems to work wonders on mature skins.
“Don’t use too much powder, use a dewy setting spray, like a silicone-based spray to make the skin have an allover even glow, and then concealer."
"Concealer always gives that perfect clean look to the skin.”
Even though he recommends you apply it before you do your concealer, I went ahead and used the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, $48, as a setting spray to make my makeup last all day, while adding a touch of radiance. Hey! You don't always have to follow every single rule, right?
4 The Day Was Coming To An End: It Was Time To Take It All Off With The Cellularose Nutri-Pure Comforting Balm Cleanser From By Terry
Instead of using the face washes I had already tried, I went with this delicate makeup remover that is formulated with antioxidant benefits, the Cellularose Nutri-Pure Comforting Balm Cleanser from By Terry ($68!). It was super gentle on my skin and allowed me to eliminate every trace of makeup, setting spray, and lipstick without leaving a greasy residue. Once you’re done applying it with your fingertips and gently massaging it, you simply wipe it all off and rinse. My skin felt refreshed and clean. But now, it was time to make sure there was seriously no dirt, grit, or impurities. The next step would take care of that.
3 Then, The Highlight Of Kim's Beauty Routine Really Added Some Major Glow: I Got The Most Expensive Facial On Earth
Kim Kardashian seems to always be camera-ready, but the secret to her radiant skin isn’t solely based on the many products she uses on a daily basis.
Kim is also a huge fan of the “Red Carpet Facial” by Tracie Martyn.
So how much does this eccentric facial that promises to deliver A-list results retail for? Well, a full-hour facial is around $450, but the results last all year long. It’s a restorative and regenerative treatment that improves elasticity, helps defy gravity, and encourages collagen formation. But even though it is marketed as a facial that’d “get your skin Red Carpet-ready,” Tracie Martyn does believe this treatment shouldn’t be reserved for award shows only.
2 Before I Finished Off With Kim's Favorite Moisturizer, I Turned Back The Clock With Dr. Barbara Sturm Super Anti-Aging Serum
Finally, it was time to prep the skin for nighttime. So far, I’ve felt like a true celebrity and Kim’s beauty routine really helped me conceal my “problem areas” while highlighting things I liked about my face. I just never realized that mixing the right products could do that for you. Before moisturizing, I tried Dr. Barbara Sturm Super Anti-Aging Serum which had been on my radar for ages. Why haven’t I tried it before? Well, for starters, it costs a crazy penny. A little bottle of this potent concentrate of anti-aging goodness costs $350. The anti-inflammatory antioxidants and high-quality complex hyaluronic acid reduces and tenses up the skin almost instantaneously.
1 The Perfect Ending: I Got To Add A Touch Of Orchid Magic With The Exquisitely-Packaged Guerlain Orchidée Impériale The Cream
Once my skin absorbed the serum, I proceeded to choose a nighttime moisturizer. I had been treating my skin like fine china all through the day, so I wanted to finish off with a bang.
Sadly, things are going back to normal once I finally go through all these product samples in a month or so.
I applied the Guerlain Orchidée Impériale The Cream, an anti-aging orchid-base beauty elixir that Kim has raved about on more than one occasion. It’ll set you back $455, but this beauty is enriched with orchids and cell respiration technology that boosts the energy production of your skin’s cells. It’s like a mini facelift, but for a fraction of the cost.
