Sarah Hyland, 28, has managed to have a successful career starring on Modern Family for the past decade despite undergoing 16 surgeries for her endometriosis and kidney dysplasia. The actress has also been very honest about struggling with depression and body image.
In a new book, Transformation by Olay, the actress is honored for her personal journey as well as encouraging self-confidence in others. In her day to day, Hyland prefers a natural look, eschewing makeup and wearing her hair with its natural curls. In terms of self-care, she prefers to focus on health and wellness as well as a good skincare routine.
Her favorite products to use first thing in the morning include the affordable Moisture Ribbons Body Wash by Olay. Hyland likes its hydrating and moisturizing properties. In the past, she used a coconut oil after showering to lock in moisture, now with the Olay body Wash she can forego the oil, which has cut her shower time in half.

As for skincare, she uses Vintner’s Daughter Oil on her face after showering as well as Nurse Jamie’s EGF Botanical Complex face moisturizer and eye serum. After applying the treatments, she uses Nurse Jamie's UpLift Facial Massaging Beauty Roller to reduce inflammation and puffiness. For breakouts, she trusts Kate Sommerville Eradikate Acne Treatment or Mario Badescu Drying Lotion for spot-treatment.
Hyland also stresses the importance of taking time for herself. "Because I’ve been through so much, I really do have to honor my body. I truly believe that your mental, emotional, and physical reality are all dependent on each other,” she tells Marie Claire. “You really need to be able to take at least one moment a day, and focus on your body—a fitness class, yoga, working out at the gym, going for a run, taking a bath, or something as simple as taking a shower and letting the water strip away all of the negativity of the day. The kind of self-care that really reiterates your self-love."
One of Hyland’s most striking features is her eyebrows, which she only tweezes minimally. She is partial to a brow gel to keep them in place since they tend to get unruly. She trusts Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel and Mary Kay Brow Gel, which is compact. She also uses a nude lip liner to overdraw her lips and make them look plumper. She likes the color of Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk, which she tops with a layer of Chapstick. She also uses Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15.

Hyland believes it’s important for women to be outspoken when it comes to their bodies.”A lot of people aren’t accepting of things like scars, cellulite, or certain body shapes—whether you’re considered too skinny or too overweight, everyone’s always going to have an opinion,” she says. “By us sharing our voices and stories people will become more accepting. There’s always going to be horrible people in the world trying to spread hate and negativity, but if you shower yourself with self-love, you will be able to overcome that. Our voices will shine brighter over the darkness that is trying to be put upon us."
The actress says women should invest in themselves. “If you have self-confidence and self-love, the only way out is up. Just how negativity can be a cancer, positivity is the same way. So, if you start your day off with a positive affirmation about yourself it can only go up from there," she adds.
