When it comes to the holiday season, everyone has their own particular preference for their favorite Christmas film. Whether you're currently debating over which films are legitimately considered Christmas movies or not, here is a list of some of the highest-grossing holiday films, ever. Findings from BoxOfficeMojo.com reveal that the highest grossing Christmas movie of all time is actually Home Alone, reaching a record-breaking lifetime gross of $285.7 million. The film is widely considered a holiday classic, and actor Macaulay Culkin’s expressive mannerisms have constantly been turned into memes.

Actor Jim Carey's holiday classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, came in a close second, at $260 million, while the newly animated reboot, Dr. Seuss' The Grinch, has placed third. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Pharrell Williams, the movie looks like it will topple the rankings soon, having cashed in over $200 billion in less than a month of being released. Other Christmas classics include The Polar Express, at fourth, and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, in fifth place.

Featuring funnyman Will Ferrell and the quirky Zoe Deschanel, the beloved holiday film, Elf, takes sixth place on this list, while The Santa Clause and its sequel nab the titles of seventh and eighth. Rounding things off, 2009's A Christmas Carol places ninth and the film Four Christmases takes tenth place. As a side note, the numbers for classic vintage movies like A Christmas Carol, It's a Wonderful Life, and the film, Miracle on 34th Street, were not officially included on this list.

In a modern-day twist, actor Macaulay Culkin recently reprised his role in a new commercial for Google. In the ad, Macaulay uses his Google Assistant tech to order pizza and clear his calendar. The actor tried to recreate another hilarious scene from Home Alone, by trying to jump up on the bed frantically, but this time around, he experiences some pain. The ad is a fun nod to the classic holiday film, and we’ll be sure to post any new updates from Culkin soon. Since his breakout role of Kevin McCallister in Home Alone, Culkin has starred in television shows like Kings and The Jim Gaffigan Show, and also for lending his voice for the comedy show Robot Chicken. With Christmas less than a week away, now is the perfect time to grab a cup of hot chocolate and spend a night watching holiday films.
