Whenever you see models- be it on Instagram, TV or somewhere else entirely- you can't help but notice just how beautiful they are. Their hair's in place, their makeup is flawless, and they look all around amazing. Granted, it's important to take such appearances with a massive grain of salt. They have professionals getting their glam on, and work hard to maintain their near-perfect bodies. Moreover, models are still human- they can be just as insecure as other women.
That's the case for supermodel Hailey Bieber, 23. Despite coming from the wildly famous Baldwin family, she revealed the struggles she's dealt with in the modeling industry. During a recent interview with Vogue Australia, She explained that her famous family and short height made modeling a challenge. Bieber even compared her unfavourably to other famous model friends.
"My burn in the modeling industry has been slow and I’ve had to learn to be OK with that," she said. "I’m shorter than most of the girls. Even though I’m 5-foot-8, I’m not a runway girl and I totally used to feel inferior to some of my friends." She even added that her modeling friends- Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid- are "all tall and doing every runway".
Bieber went on to reveal that well the aformentioned models were able to score runway work with relative ease, doing so herself was much harder. Executives and casting directors didn't look at her as a model, causing her to question her career choice. Jenner and the Hadid sisters managed to walk catwalks all around the world, yet Bieber was left out in the cold.
Rather than choose a different career path altogether, Beiber said that she decided to shift her focus from runway modeling to commercial modeling. This proved to be a wise and sucessful choice; she's since worked in commercial campaigns for many popular fashion companies. This includes Adidas, bareMinerals and Tommy Hilfiger, just to name a few. She also became the show of the popular TV show Drop the Mic, and even models for husband Justin Bieber's fashion line, Drew.
Between all that work and future plans to launch either a fashion or beauty company of her own, it looks as though everything worked out for Mrs. Beiber. She may not have become a runway model like her friends, but that doesn't make her less of a model. Everyone's different, and that's okay! Here's hoping that Bieber is feeling more confident about her modeling career these days.
