The 90’s sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel-Air might be the getting a reboot but with a girly twist.

Everything old is new again in the television world, with several reboots of famous shows being announced. Charmed, Party of Five, and Sabrina The Teenage Witch are all mega hit shows from the 1990’s that are getting rebooted. These three shows not only have official pilot orders, but have also started casting pivotal roles.

There is now a rumor that the NBC hit show Fresh Prince of Bel-Air could be getting a reboot, but with a gender swap twist. TMZ is reporting the new show will be titled Fresh Princess, however the website makes it clear that despite the title, there has not been an official announcement for the new series.

Warner Brothers owns the legal rights to the Will Smith classic comedy. The studio is reportedly working on getting Fresh Princess trade-marked in the hopes of moving forward with the reboot. It has also not been revealed how far along the studio is in the legal process, or if NBC would be the network to air the reboot.

Talk of a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot has been buzzing for a few months. Smith even talked about it two months ago on the Graham Norton Show, where he commented he would likely have to take on the Uncle Phil role now. However, there is no information indicating he is involved with the possible gender swap reboot. It would be really cool to see him in an Uncle Phil type role though, all grown up and paternal.

Although it is definitely too early to tell if Fresh Princess will actually end up on the small screen, it is still very exciting news. If some of the original cast members returned, like with Fuller House, that would be even better. It has been over two decades since The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air ended but that hasn’t stopped a new crop of fans from finding the show. It currently airs on Nick at Nite and is as good as it was in its original run.

What do you think about the possibility of a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot with a gender twist, is it a good or bad idea?
