Now that Meghan Markle is married to Prince Harry and has been bestowed with the moniker of "Duchess of Sussex", she's going to have to get used to a lot more media exposure. She's already had a taste of that, after being the world's "it" girl when she was first spotted dating the Prince. And her acting career and role in the series Suits has trained her well when it comes to dealing with the press.

Now, she's been able to get a sitcom based on her life axed, although that incident was far too close to home in more ways than one. Besides seeing a series that was likely geared to spoof her past, Markle was disturbed to find out it was her ex-husband Trevor Engelson who was pitching the idea to networks. Using his former marital connection as the draw came across as not only sleazy, but vindictive as well.

Thanks to many of her friends in Los Angeles, who pleaded on her behalf to not go ahead with the project, Engelson, who's a bona fide producer, finally relented. It's not known how much clout was displayed by Buckingham Palace to ensure the series wouldn't go ahead.

One producer declared that even though the Duchess was very upset that her royal romance was going to be lampooned in a series, there's still nothing legally stopping him from moving forward with it.

"While Harry and his lawyers may have some sway in the UK, in the States, Trevor has a much more open opportunity to do what he wants," said one insider. "There is a feeling too that it is too soon for a TV network to go straight at the new royals given their popularity and it could flop".

Before the Duchess' friends stepped in, Engelson had already pitched FOX and had worked out a pilot for the program. He also enlisted the talents of Danny Zuker, the executive producer of Modern Family, to help write the series.

The latest word is that Engelson has moved on to other projects, including another season of the FX series Snowfall, Dream Team (a biopic on the American men's 1992 Olympic gold medal winners) and a forthcoming Netflix movie called 13 Minutes.

However, speculation still persists that Engelson might go back to pitching the royal sitcom if the opportunity presents itself once the dust has settled.
