Clearly excited about her new pets, the E.T. actress explained to her fans that she took her daughters to a rescue shelter to adopt one kitten, and came home three. Barrymore has a history of rescuing animals in need, already having a dog, Douglas, who she rescued from the San Fernando Valley in California. Douglas makes regular appearances on her social media accounts. In a post in December of last year, he popped up in a selfie snap with the star raising awareness for the American Society For The Protection of Animals. "#holidayawareweek @aspca this is my Douglas. He is a rescue from the San Fernando Valley. With all fires and floods and tragedy that have changed the lives of people overnight in our country, many people have pets that are family members as well. Animals need us too. I am putting this in here because I support this amazing organization and they need all the resources they can get, from a year of such difficulty and overwhelming disasters. Please give any time or money you can give to help take care of our pets. They take care of us right back!"
