Most of us tackle working out with a great enthusiasm...unless it's the morning after a night out, in which case we may as well be battling through the nine stages of heck, but that's another story. If you've been working out for years, then you're probably pretty confident that you've got your routine down to a fine art, but according to Popsugar, these workout mistakes are so common that even seasoned pros could be making them.
Personal trainer Max Weber believes that the key to getting the results at the gym lies in defeating these pitfalls, some of which, he's even been prey to himself over the years. According to Weber, working out too frequently can actually have a negative effect on what you're trying to achieve, which makes us wonder why we've been getting up early to hit the gym every day. Likewise, spending too much time training on one exercise can be pointless, too. Working out every other day and concentrating on different parts of your body is a much better option.
Many first-time gym goers also tend to have no idea about proper form, which essentially means that the exercises can be harmful or not effective. With a lot of people taking tips from Instagram users, it's difficult to see how to properly hold yourself when doing workouts that involve specific exercises, like lunges or squats. This is where a personal trainer or someone who knows what they're doing can come in handy. If you already have a personal trainer and they've prescribed rest times, then not adhering to those can have the opposite effect to what you're trying to achieve, too.
Max recommends having at least one or two rest days a week, for your body to recuperate and get back up to speed. We all want to get to our goals immediately, but by waiting it out and following this advice you'll be there before you know it.
