On Sunday, controversial Clueless actress Stacey Dash was arrested in Florida on suspicion of domestic battery after a verbal argument with her husband escalated. The 52-year-old actress turned conservative Fox News commentator reportedly got into a fight with husband Jeffrey Marty and his children at 7:45 pm at an apartment building in New Port Richey, Florida, according to a report from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office and a 911 call.
The arrest report states that Dash pushed Marty and slapped him across the face, which resulted in "red scratch marks to his left upper arm from being pushed." The sheriff's office released a recording of the 911 call and footage from the arrest. Dash told the dispatcher that said she was acting in self-defense after Marty put her in a chokehold during a family argument.
"We were all arguing, and I asked his daughter to get out of my face because she was in my face," she told the dispatcher. "I pushed her back. He put me into a chokehold." While speaking to the dispatcher, Dash responded to a man in the background, saying, "You want to see the marks around my neck?" She then added, "I didn't hit you."
"I need you to stop engaging with him, ma'am," the dispatcher interjected. Dash then told the dispatcher that she, three children, and another adult were involved in the incident. She stated, however, that she did not believe she was in danger and was trying to stay calm and in the room. "I just want to get out of here safely," she said after.
In the two-minute video from a police officer's body camera, Dash can be seen calmly following the deputies' instructions as they ask her to put her hands behind her back and hand over her phone. "What are you doing?" Dash asks the deputy handcuffing her. "I'll tell you in a second," he says. "I am just detaining you for right now."
After being asked if the cuffs are too tight, the deputy takes her arm and leads her to the patrol car. "Am I being arrested?" she asks. Once again, the deputy responds, "I'll explain it all to you in a second," as they exit the apartment building and walk out to the street.
She tells the deputy she has never been arrested in Florida or any other state, that she does not have a concealed carry permit, and that she was born in the Bronx. She also adds that she "did a film called Clueless" and was once a "Fox News contributor."
In 2018, Dash ran as a Republican to represent California’s 44th Congressional District in 2018. She had previously worked as a conservative commentator on Fox News but was suspended in 2015 for saying that Obama "could give a sh*t" about terrorism. She also wrote a book entitled There Goes My Social Life: From Clueless to Conservative.
On Sunday night, Dash was booked at the Land O’Lakes police department and released at 11:47 am the next day after posting $500 bail, according to sheriff's records.
