10 Make Your Bed

Sounds easy enough, right? Then why does it seem like one of the hardest tasks someone could potentially give us? It seems like making our beds every morning is something our mothers have been telling us to do since we were children, but many people still find it hard to implement such a small thing into their lives.

But the truth is, you should definitely be doing. There's just something about having your bed made when you get home at the end of the day. It just makes everything look put together, tidy, and much more inviting. Wake up five minutes earlier if you have to, because it's definitely going to be worth it!

9 Keep Your Laundry In Check

It's good practice to make it a habit out of doing one load of laundry every day. While common practice seems to be waiting until you have ten loads to do, and you just spend the whole weekend on it while the stains gain power and the smell accumulates.

Here's the thing: doing just one load of laundry every day will keep your laundry basket from overflowing, it will ensure you have some of your favorite pieces always washed and ready to use, it frees up the endless hours you spend on Sundays doing it and makes your apartment look that much nicer. It's all pros, so make sure you take five and go load that machine right away.

8 Make It A Daily Habit

Let's just make something clear right off the bat - deep cleaning sessions will always be necessary, no matter how tidy you are on a daily basis. Those tiny little annoying corners that accumulate dust will have to be dealt with, and your yearly session of decluttering needs to happen unless you want to drown in useless junk.

However, there's a great practice to put into place every day to make your place look like it's handled by a maid 24/7. Every night, before you go to bed, do a small cleaning session. We're talking about 15 minutes here, where you vacuum a little bit and put things in their rightful place, even if it's just a pillow. It's already a world of difference!

7 Choose Wisely Where To Store Cleaning Supplies

Cleaning supplies aren't exactly pretty, so it's no wonder most of us choose to store it in some random closet away from anyone's eyes. Plus, it's not exactly something that we want to be smelling constantly, so it makes some measure of sense. But there is a great hack for this that will make your cleaning life much easier!

Each room of the house demands a special kind of product or cleaning supply. Bathrooms and kitchens are a great example of this. So from now on, why not store the cleaning products close to the places where you actually use them? They don't need to be visible, and it's that much easier to reach out and grab whatever you need at the moment.

6 Watch Those Dishes

We know not everyone owns a dishwasher. But honestly, even those who own one are often guilty of letting the dishes pile up after a meal. Or a few meals. And there is nothing that makes a person or a house come off as untidy quite like a huge pile of dirty dishes.

Look, we get it. You're in a rush when you have breakfast, you're tired when you're done with dinner. But taking care of your dirty dishes right away will take you less than 10 minutes, and it will spare you from having a thousand things to clean up when the weekend comes. Plus, you'll feel so much better waking up and coming home to an empty sink and shiny dishes!

5 Don't Let Clothes Pile Up

Everybody has that chair. Yes, you know exactly what chair we're talking about. The one in your room, that you can barely see because it's drowning in a pile of all the clothes you wore for the past week. Don't feel bad - pretty much every single person on this planet is guilty of either having it or having had it at some point in time.

But let's be real here - it just makes your room look messy, and much less inviting. Folding your clothes after you take them off, or putting them in the laundry basket, really isn't that hard. It's just a matter of habit! Plus, once you start you won't be able to stop, because your room will actually look like a bedroom instead of a dressing room again!

4 Organize Your Paper

What is it about paper that just seems to have the power of being spread everywhere in a house? Anything from magazines to notebooks to planners to lists or receipts. Lift a piece of furniture off the ground and you're sure to find at least one of these random pieces of paper somewhere around.

And the problem with small pieces of paper is that one is enough to make a tidy room instantly look messy. The best way to go about this is to organize your paper! Buy yourself a nice magazine holder, keep your receipts in a folder, and make a nice pile out of your notebooks and planners. Instantly better, no questions asked.

3 Use It, Wipe It!

Tables are probably some of the pieces of furniture most prone to get dusty or dirty. Whether it's your dinner table, your kitchen table, your nightstand, or the cute one you keep next to the couches in the living room, they all seem to have some sort of super-power that allows them to instantly absorb dirt.

The good news is, there's a fantastic habit you can put in place in order to make your tables look like they are permanently flawless. Just wipe them after you use them? After meals, after placing a glass on them, anything. Before you leave the house, or before you go to bed, wipe them with a little bit of cleaning product. Voilà!

2 Store Your Shoes

We go through a ridiculous amount of shoes every day. We have the slippers we like to use around the house, the heels we wear to work, the stilettos to go out for drinks, the gym shoes...it's just a big old shoe extravaganza. An extravaganza that very quickly turns into a huge mess of sandals in the living room, a pair of sneakers in the bathroom and the other one in the kitchen.

A great way to keep your date form thinking you have a serious problem with leaving shoes in every room of the house is to invest in a shoe rack or pretty boxes where you can store them. It becomes a habit to just go where you store them and change pairs while leaving everything in the same place. No more wild shoes!

1 Put Things Away

We're very much aware that you don't live in an IKEA catalog. If human beings are living in a house, there's going to be signs that the place is inhabited. Plus, we're not suggesting you stop taking advantage of the place you call home! Simply that you mind a few hacks to make it better and more comfortable.

And one thing that happens when you are inside, is that you take things from their place to use them somewhere else. Maybe it's a book, maybe it's a bag, maybe it's a glass. When you do, and once you're done with it, just make sure you return them to their rightful place. It will still feel like home, only a much tidier home!
