Chanel Beauty has announced that they will be launching a new makeup line designed for men.

In the past, the majority of cosmetics companies have marketed their products exclusively towards women. But in recent years, more men have expressed an interest in wearing makeup. Drag queens and popular male beauty gurus like James Charles and Manuel Gutierrez (also known as “Manny MUA”) have prompted a growing number of men to ignore traditional gender roles and experiment with makeup. Companies like Chanel have caught on to this trend, and they’re ready to welcome male customers.

The Boy de Chanel collection, named after Gabrielle Chanel’s boyfriend Boy Capel, will include several new products. The sheer Le Teint Foundation SPF 25 will come in eight shades, all of which are infused with the super hydrating ingredient hyaluronic acid. The Le Stylo Sourcils eyebrow pencil will be released in four shades. The collection will also include the Le Blume Lèvres moisturizing matte lip balm, which comes in a neutral shade to add a little extra gloss without overpowering one's natural lip color.

Some potential customers have noted that Chanel may want to consider expanding their foundation shade range. With many beauty brands deciding to expand their foundation ranges to 40 or more shades, eight shades does seem fairly limited. However, the brand has plenty of time to respond to consumer critiques and add new shades to the line if there is enough demand.

Chanel’s Boy franchise is not new: the company has already designed clothing, handbags, and fragrances for men. Why did they decide to expand into cosmetics? The company has stated that they designed this collection because makeup has no gender. Everyone should be able to express their personality and creativity with cosmetics. It’s clear that many people are ready to express themselves in a new way and change society’s idea of “beauty.”

The Boy de Chanel collection will have its initial release in South Korea in September. After that, it will be released online for international customers in November and in Chanel boutiques around the world starting in January 2019.

If Boy de Chanel enjoys high sales, other beauty brands will likely start taking notes and offering new products geared towards men, too. Makeup for men is definitely one of the next big trends in the beauty industry.
