To most people, celebrities are these incredible beings we’ve grown accustomed to seeing on television and/or the big screen. They appear to be larger than life. They also seem to have more interesting lives than most of us. And because of this, it also seemed that, to a certain extent, they could do no wrong.
Well, just like a lot of us, celebrities also struggle in their private lives. It’s hard to raise a family in the public eye. Nonetheless, a lot of celebrity families seem to do so with lots of poise and grace. Take, for example, the likes of Cindy Crawford and Richard Gerber or David and Victoria Beckham.
On the other hand, there are celebrity parents that seem to struggle to even get along with their kids over the years. Just to give you a better idea, here are 20 celebrity parents who have had some major beef with their own children at some point:
20 Mia Farrow: Soon-Yi Previn
Things got really complicated between actress Mia Farrow and adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn when it emerged that Previn was having an affair with Farrow’s boyfriend, director Woody Allen. Today, Allen and Previn are married, and the couple has become relatively estranged from Farrow. Meanwhile, Previn has also been vocal about how much she didn't like living with Farrow before. During an interview, she told The New York Times, “It’s hard for someone to imagine, but I really can’t come up with a pleasant memory.”
19 Ryan O'Neal: Tatum O'Neal
When Tatum O’Neal was only 10 years old, she made history by becoming the youngest actress to win an Oscar. And she did so while starring alongside her father, Ryan O’Neal. Over the years, however, their relationship became strained. They have also become estranged, so much so that the actor didn’t recognize his own daughter at Farrah Fawcett’s funeral. During an interview with Vanity Fair, the actor even recalled hitting on his own daughter, “I said to her, 'You have a drink on you? You have a car?' She said, 'Daddy, it's me– Tatum!'”
18 Courtney Love: Frances Bean Cobain
As a single parent following Kurt Cobain’s suicide in 1994, it’s fair to say that Courtney Love had a hard time being a mom to their daughter, Frances. In fact, she lost custody of her child a few times over the years. Moreover, according to People, there was a time when Love’s custody loss was “simply about Frances preferring to live with her grandmother at this time,” as explained by Love’s former lawyer. Meanwhile, during a RuPaul’s podcast last February, Cobain said that her mother is “highly self-destructive.”
17 Linda Hogan: Brooke Hogan
Ever since Linda Hogan divorced from WWE star Hulk Hogan, tensions between her and daughter Brooke got worse in the immediate aftermath. In 2009, Brooke told E! News, “I look at the things she's released and said about me and I'm like, how could I ever trust her again? How could I ever look at her and be like, 'You kind of threw me in front of the bus in front of the whole world.’ Who does that to their kid?”
16 Tamra Judge: Sidney Barney
In a pretty lengthy Facebook post, Sidney Barney threw major side at her mom, reality star Tamra Judge. Barney wrote, “The reasons I left my mother's house are that she was neglectful (leaving us at home with no food or simply ignoring us entirely), she constantly put herself first and the biggest reason was that she was mentally and emotionally abusive. She was no mother to me.”
15 Rosie O'Donnell: Chelsea O’Donnell
Back in 2015, Rosie O’Donnell declared that her adopted daughter, Chelsea, was missing. According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea was found two weeks later with an older male that she met on Tinder. During an interview, however, Chelsea claimed that her mother had kicked her out of the house. The relationship between the two remained strained until they reconnected with each other last year.
14 Tommy Lee: Brandon Lee
Over the years, Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee has been feuding with his son Brandon Lee. However, the situation between father and son got more intense when their fight turned physical in 2018. Of the incident, Tommy tweeted, “My fiancée and I were in bed when my son busted into the room and assaulted me. I asked him to leave the house and he knocked me unconscious.” Charges against Brandon were eventually dropped and the two appeared to have reconciled.
13 50 Cent: Marquise Jackson
50 Cent and Marquise Jackson became estranged due to the rapper’s falling out with Jackson’s mother, Shaniqua Tompkins. During an interview with Rap-Up, Jackson also explained, “It completely went south when I was probably like 10 or 11. He wasn’t really around enough. It kind of dwindled down as time went on and certain events happened.” The father and son have also feuded publicly. And when Jackson posted a photo of himself hanging out with one of his father’s rivals, 50 Cent commented, “If both these little . . . got hit by a bus, I wouldn’t have a bad day.”
12 Gavin Rossdale: Daisy Lowe
For quite a long time, Daisy Lowe had no idea that Gavin Rossdale was her biological her father. The revelation only came when Lowe turned 14 and took a paternity test. And when the results came out, Rossdale wasn’t exactly pleased. In her autobiography, Lowe’s mother Pearl, wrote, “When Daisy eventually succeeded in speaking to him, Gavin appeared more concerned with venting his anger about my behavior than engaging with his daughter.” In recent years, however, the father and daughter have been seen hanging out.
11 Anthony Hopkins: Abigail Hopkins
Back in the 90s, Abigail Hopkins reunited with her Oscar-winning father and even appeared in two of his films. Since then, however, it seems the two have become completely estranged. When asked if Abigail already has children of her own in 2018 by Radio Times, the veteran actor explained, “I don't have any idea. People break up. Families split and you get on with your life. People make choices. I don't care one way or the other.”
10 Billy Ray Cyrus: Miley Cyrus
When singer/actress Miley Cyrus was still known as Hannah Montana, it seemed like nothing could split her and her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, apart. But we were wrong. In the coming years, Billy Ray would divorce Miley’s mom. And when Billy Ray sat down with GQ in 2011, it became apparent that the father and daughter weren’t in touch as much. In fact, he even made the decision to skip his daughter’s 18th birthday bash.

In 2015, Olivier even took a dig at Bill by posting the greeting “Happy abandonment day” on Instagram. In response, Bill told the Daily Mail, “I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own. I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name. They are no longer a part of my life.”
6 Nicole Kidman: Isabella And Connor Cruise
In 2017, there were some who questioned why actress Nicole Kidman didn’t acknowledge her two other children during her Emmy acceptance speech. As you may know, Kidman shares Isabella and Connor Cruise with ex-husband Tom Cruise. However, since the pair had split, Kidman also walked out on Scientology, a religion that Cruise and the children still practice. Because of this, it doesn’t seem that Kidman has had contact with Isabella or Connor in recent years.
5 John Voight: Angelina Jolie
As she was growing up, actress Angelina Jolie was always vocal about her relationship with her father, John Voight, or the lack thereof. At some point, it was reported that the actress finally decided to cut ties with her famous father. 4 Nancy Dow: Jennifer Aniston
Actress Jennifer Aniston is the daughter of late actress Nancy Dow. Over the years, it became clear that the two had quite a strained relationship. 3 Alec Baldwin: Ireland Baldwin
Ireland Baldwin is Alec Baldwin’s daughter with actress Kim Basinger. And over the years, it’s become clear that the two don’t exactly have a loving relationship. In fact, Alec once left a scathing voicemail for Ireland in 2007 saying, “You are a rude, thoughtless little pig. 1 Caitlyn Jenner: Kardashian-Jenner Siblings
Prior to transitioning, Caitlyn was Bruce Jenner, a father to the Kardashian-Jenner kids. Following her transformation, Caitlyn came out with a book entitled “The Secrets of My Live,” which Kris and the children did not appreciate. The family even discussed the book in one episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians with daughter Kendall Jenner saying, “She goes around dissing the Kardashians, but those are the kids that you raised! If you have a problem with them, you raised them. That makes no sense to me, that she would go around bashing us for no reason.”
