Celebrities, they're just like us... including having quarrels with their families. When you factor in the stress and jealousy of fame as well as the obvious money-related issues, it's not hard to see why so many stars have family members they can't seem to get along with.
While it's most common for a celebrity to have problems with their parents— especially when the parents themselves aren't famous— there are times when stars butt heads with their children. This list consists of actors, comedians, musicians, producers, reality stars, and other types of celebrities that have had high-profile conflicts with their offspring, adopted children, and/or stepchildren.
15 Rosie O'Donnell
In 2015, actor and talk show host Rosie O'Donnell announced that her then-17-year-old adopted daughter, Chelsea, had gone missing. Chelsea was later found to be holed up at the house of an alleged dealer, bringing to light her struggles with addiction.
What followed was Chelsea claiming Rosie kicked her out just before her 18th birthday, but Rosie said it was Chelsea who decided to leave. Rosie then publicly stated that Chelsea was mentally ill, admitted that their relationship was strained, and said Chelsea was a "nightmare." Chelsea then went on to claim that she was mostly raised by caretakers rather than Rosie herself anyway.
14 Nicolas Cage
Nic's most well-known child is the one he had with third wife Alice Kim that he famously named Kal-El, which is the birth name of Superman.
Perhaps because of this, his other son, Weston, has seemingly slipped through the cracks. The result of Nic's first marriage, Nic had initially tried to get Weston involved in acting and got Weston a part in his film Lord of War. But Weston's career stalled, and soon he turned to substance abuse, causing his dad to distance himself, forcing him to get his act together. The pair have reconnected a bit in recent years, but Nic seems to have little tolerance for Weston.
13 Anthony Hopkins
Even though acclaimed actor Anthony Hopkins only has a single child, he doesn't have a relationship with her. It's hard to blame his daughter, Abigail, for being angry at him, as it is said that Anthony abandoned Abigail and her mother when Abigail was still a baby.
During a 2018 interview with the actor in Radio Times, Abigail came up and prompted Anthony to very matter-of-factly state, "Families split and, you know, 'Get on with your life.' People make choices. I don't care one way or another."
12 Candy Spelling
Few names in the history of television have had more success and done more to shape the direction of the medium than Aaron Spelling, whose legendary career included work on such popular and influential series as Charlie's Angels, Dynnasty, The Love Boat, Beverly Hills 90210, 7th Heaven, Charmed, and many others.
When he passed away, there was only his longtime wife, Candy, and two children with which divvy up his nine-figure fortune. Candy had come to believe that the children, had become too reliant on Aaron's money and therefore only let each of them have less than a million bucks of dad's fortune.
11 Mia Farrow
Woody Allen probably doesn't think too fondly of several of his adopted and step-children these days given the accusations they've brought against him.
What's a bit more cut and dry, however, is Woody's ex, Mia Farrow, and her current feelings toward two of her adopted children. One of them, Soon-Yi Previn, became romantically involved with Woody Allen while he was still with Mia, bringing an end to Woody and Mia's long-term relationship. She was obviously upset with Woody, but wasn't too happy with Soon-Yi either and has been estranged from her ever since.
10 Sherri Shepherd
Best known for her seven year stint as a co-host on The View,Sherri Shepherd is generally seen as a bright and bubbly presence, but there is evidence that suggests Sherri might be a different person when the cameras aren't rolling.
Sherri and now-ex-husband Lamar Sally sought out a surrogate, only things went sour with the couple and they began divorce proceedings before the child was born. During the trial, Sherri tried to cut ties with her future child, claiming that she shouldn't have any obligations to it. A court had to force Sherri to at least be financial responsible for the child, but she has chosen to not have any relationship with young boy, who is now four.
9 Adam Lind
There are several not-so-stellar baby daddies associated with MTV's various Teen Mom shows, but Teen Mom 2's Adam Lind is arguably the worst of them all. He initially didn't seem all that interested in being a dad, but many young dads eventually grow up.
Adam seems unwilling to do that. He not only can't seem to stay out of trouble— he has been arrested over two dozen times and is currently in jail as of this writing— but once flat-out called his daughter a "mistake" on Twitter and has no trouble disparaging the innocent girl in the name of trying to hurt her mother.
8 Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson
Rappers are known for having beefs, sometimes even with their own kin, but never before has a rapper had such a savage public feud with his own child. It's unclear exactly what Marquise Jackson, son of 50 Cent, did that was so terrible, but it led to 50 saying on social media "I don't have a son anymore. I will have nothing to do with [him]."
Unfortunately, that isn't even the worst of it. Later, 50 saw a picture of Marquise with Kenneth "Supreme" Griff, another person who 50 isn't fond of, prompting 50 to say on Instagram about the pair that if they "got hit by a bus, I wouldn't have a bad day."
7 Caitlyn Jenner
Caitlyn Jenner not only has six biological children from her three marriages, but she was also a father figure to Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, and Rob Kardashian for much of their lives. That's a total of ten children that have called Caitlyn "Dad" at one time or another— so how many of them does he still have any sort of positive relationship with?
On a consistent basis, it's mostly Kylie and Kendal Jenner that Caitlyn seems to really care to maintain a relationship with. He was content to alienate the Kardashian children following his transition and had little tolerance for their objection to her badmouthing their mother, Kris.
6 Bill Hudson
Actress Goldie Hawn conceived Kate and Oliver with actor Bill Hudson, who ducked out of his parental obligations shortly after their birth and left fatherly duties to Kurt Russell, Goldie's next— and current— partner. But the Hudson kids, in particular Oliver, were never shy about their appreciation for Kurt and bitterness against Bill, which Bill didn't take lightly— so much so that he publicly stated that the two aren't worthy of the Hudson name and should drop it.
5 John Barrymore
Drew's father, actor John Barrymore Jr., was definitely more concerned with his career than his family. While mother Jaid was letting Drew go to substance-fueled parties as a child, John just wasn't around at all, choosing to barely even acknowledge Drew at all and eventually led her to become emancipated at 15— and the fact that she was granted that request speaks volumes about John and Jaid's interest and role in Drew's life.
4 Tom Cruise
When Katie Holmes divorced Tom Cruise, she also divorced herself from the Church of Scientology and took the couple's daughter, Suri, with her, saying she felt she needed to "protect" Suri from Scientology. As a result, Tom seemingly has nothing to do with Suri— his only biological child— anymore, and hasn't been seen publicly with his daughter since 2013. The terms of the divorce settlement reportedly allows him ten days of visitation per month, which he chooses to forgo.
3 Jackie Chan
Action superstar Jackie Chan is known for being extremely gracious to his fans, as well as contributing to and being a part of multiple charities and humanitarian causes. However, if you happen to be Jackie Chan's son, the love you get from him is of a much tougher sort.
Jackie spent some time trying to help Jaycee get an acting career off the ground, which didn't end up panning out— and later, Jaycee was arrested for drugs. Rather than intervene at all on his son's behalf, Jackie let his disgraced son serve his full prison sentence and left him responsible for his own debts.
2 Jackie Siegel
Socialite Jackie Siegel became a household name after the release of the 2012 documentary The Queen of Versailles, which sees her, her husband, and their many children struggle with a declining economy just as they're setting about building one of the most expensive homes in the entire United States.
The Siegels have eight children (one adopted), which might make you assume that Jackie just can't get enough of motherhood. In fact, she seems to spend little to no time with her children, letting nannies, housekeepers, and the like do the bulk of the child-rearing.
1 Ryan O'Neal
Actress Tatum O'Neal had about as strong a debut as any child actor has ever had, becoming the youngest Oscar winner in history when she took home the award for Best Supporting Actress at the age of 10 for her role in Paper Moon. She starred alongside famous father Ryan O'Neal, with the two exhibiting excellent on-screen chemistry.
As many do, Tatum wrote about her troubled life and familial relationships in an autobiography, which Ryan was extremely angry about. He called her a "b— -h" in an interview in reference to said book, saying she shouldn't have aired the family's dirty laundry like that— a slight which he is still hasn't fully gotten over.
