Carrie Underwood says makeup gives her confidence as her face continues to change and heal from her horrific fall late last year.

Last Sunday, fans watched with anticipation as Underwood not only walked the red carpet for the first time but also performed at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. However, their excitement was nothing compared to what the singer was going through that day. She was extremely nervous, making her first public appearance since a fall outside her Nashville home left her with 40 stitches in her face.

In order to shake her fears, Underwood had a little secret weapon that helped her build her confidence: makeup.

“Makeup is a confidence builder for me. When I want to look hot, I like smoky eyes and eyeliner. I just feel like it’s nice to have things that enhance the things you like and cover up the things you don’t. I like walking by a mirror and I’m like, ‘Ok! I feel like I’m put together. Alright!” she shared with People Style Watch.

Whatever she did for the evening worked because the American Idol alum looked absolutely gorgeous. Plus, she did an amazing job performing her newly released single, "Cry Pretty". Underwood did not even give fans a glimpse of being nervous or scared, she just nailed it like a pro.

Even before her accident the 35-year-old had a passion for makeup.

“I don’t think I ever have makeup free days, to be honest. I wear makeup for me. I don’t want to walk by a mirror and feel like I haven’t given some sort of effort. I just feel better when I have a little on,” she revealed about her relationship with makeup, which has only grown over the past few months.

Carrie Underwood has shared that she has used her love of wearing makeup to help her rebuild her confidence, not simply for her first public appearance, but as part of her journey as her face healed. It is not a vain thing, either. Her love of makeup has always been about how it makes her feel on the inside. Ladies - we can all relate to that, right?
