Rita Ora and Cardi B are locking lips in the new music video for the new track, Girls.

The song, by Rita Ora, was released last month and features Cardi B, Charli XCX, and Bebe Rexha. The group of girls joined forces to record Girls for Rita Ora’s album, and what was meant to be a light-hearted song filled with summer fun, took a turn for what we’re sure Rita wasn’t expecting.

The song quickly faced backlash from the LGBTQ+ community where pop singer Hayley Kiyoko and R&B artist Kehlani chimed in and criticized the track for being “downright tone-deaf”. “I know this wasn’t the intention of the artists on the song, but it’s the lack of consideration behind these lyrics that really get me”, Kiyoko wrote.

“This type of message is dangerous because it completely belittles and invalidates the very pure feelings of an entire community. I feel have a responsibility to protect that whenever possible. We can and should do better”, the singer said. R&B star Kehlani later added in her two cents, claiming the song to contains “harmful lyrics”. Although many people were feeling some type of way regarding the songs lyrics, that didn’t stop the artists of the song from having fun in the music video!

The video for the track was released and features a hologram of Cardi B kissing Rita Ora. Ora previously apologized for any offense caused, saying: The song “was written to represent my truth and is an accurate account of a very real and honest experience in my life. I have had romantic relationships with women and men throughout my life and this is my personal journey”.

“I would never intentionally cause harm to other LGBTQ+ people or anyone”, she added in. The song was reportedly inspired by Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl, which was released and accepted with little to no backlash, while Girls sparked a mass conversation.
