Camilla Cabello is finally sharing the details of her summer romance with Shawn Mendes. The two pop stars, who recorded the chart-topping sensation "Señorita" together, have somewhat kept their relationship under wraps, but in the Women in Music October issue of Elle magazine, Cabello says, “I don't know; people can say whatever they want. They can speculate, but at the same time, we are going to live our own lives, enjoy it, and fall for each other like nobody is watching.”

In the interview, the 22-year-old singer doesn’t hold back and professes her love for Mendes, saying, “'I mean, I love him. We have always connected; we have the best time together.” Yet she does say that she wants to protect their relationship and their privacy. “That is how I want to live. I never want to open the door for people to feel like they are involved. Like I said, I want it to be mine and [his]. That's why I'm so tight-lipped about it: because I want to protect it.”

Although the singers have known each other for some time, they only started dating this summer. They were first seen getting affectionate on the 4th of July. A source told US last month that the pair initially had “a fun, lighthearted summer fling-type situation” but added that the relationship had become more serious. The two previously collaborated on "I Know What You Did Last Summer," a song from Mendes’ 2015 debut studio album Handwritten.

The couple has not been shy about showing affection in public. Just today, they were spotted in Toronto ahead of Mendes’ show tomorrow. The couple took the chance to stroll around the city and were caught by photographers in the throes of passion. This isn’t their first public make-out session. They were recently spotted in Miami getting up close and personal while in the water at the beach. Some have criticized their PDA but frankly, if you have a problem, don’t look, because these two are barely out of adolescence so it’s normal that their hormones are still raging.

The couple seems to have quite a bit in common. They’ve both been hugely successful as solo acts from a young age. Also, they’ve been very vocal about their personal struggles. Cabello and Mendes have both battled mental health issues. In a 2018 interview with Cosmopolitan UK, she spoke about dealing with obsessive-compulsive disorder and her experience with "negative, intrusive thoughts."

Meanwhile, Mendes has discussed his struggles with anxiety, which he referred to in his song "In My Blood” from his third studio album. He has undergone therapy in order to deal with the condition, saying, “I made a conscious effort to be more connected to the people in my life. I found I was closing myself off from everybody, thinking that would help me battle it then realizing the only way I was going to battle it was completely opening up and letting people in.”

The Elle issue also features Lizzo and Billie Eilish and goes on sale September 24.
