Ingrown hairs can be both painful and irritating, and one Reddit user posted a thread asking whether popular K-beauty serum 'Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid' could help to eliminate the itchy bumps. But the question is, can it? This particular serum has become popular due to its ability to get rid of blackheads, and the thread starter made a correlation between ingrown hairs and blackheads.
The active ingredient BHA, or beta hydroxy acid, is an agent used for deep cleaning skin as it can penetrate the pores and unclog them. BHA also works as an exfoliant, helping to remove dead skin. The Reddit thread had several replies from others claiming that the Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid had indeed helped them get rid off those pesky post shave bumps, under the arms as well as on the bikini line. However, according to dermatologists, a blackhead is not quite the same as an ingrown hair.
As reported by Allure, dermatologists explain that although BHA exfoliating can help clear up mild acne or inflamed hair follicles, it cannot actually eliminate ingrown hairs. Applying BHA is not likely to have any effect on releasing a hair trapped under the skin.

An ingrown hair is basically a hair that, after having been cut off from shaving or waxing, cannot penetrate the skin as it starts to grow again. When the hair gets trapped it results in an inflammation, which appears as a red, painful bump on the skin, similar to a pimple. For those suffering from ingrown hairs, rather than wasting your BHA serum, the suggestion is to use a facial cleanser containing from 4 to 10 percent benzoyl peroxide on the affected area. For anyone with almost cyst like razor bumps, the best is to visit your dermatologist as it might require professional treatment.
Everyone's skin is different, and thereby also the skin problems that might occur. It is always advisable to be cautious when introducing new formulas or active ingredients, especially on sensitive areas such as the bikini line or the armpits. For those suffering a lot from ingrown hairs as a result of waxing or shaving, laser hair removal might be a better solution as it does not irritate the skin the same way.
