Times nowadays are so complicated that whenever anyone thinks about the old days, the simpler days, it can make them teary-eyed. There was a lot less hustle and bustle, and there was just a lot less stress all around. Thinking back to music and fashion from the past can make anyone nostalgic. Another thing that makes people nostalgic is when they think of old soda flavors and brands that are no longer a thing nowadays. The only time they may be a thing is if they are sold privately on eBay or other outlets for an outrageous price.
However, thinking back to discontinued sodas is a way to remember the old and simple days. Which sodas are no longer easily accessible? Listed below are 10 types of those fizzy drinks that anyone can miss just by thinking about them. Even if that means they didn't care for the flavor.
10 Pepsi Blue
Pepsi has been around for an extremely long time and the brand has released different flavors and types over decades. One of those flavors they came up with was berry, which was based on the establishment of Pepsi Blue. This flavor only lasted for two years, as it was available from 2002 to 2004.
The pop was well-liked. Most people thought it tasted pleasant. The problem was that it was not marketable. Even though the pop was good, no one could associate Pepsi with blue pop and berries. However, even though it is discontinued in most places around the world, it is available in the Philippines and in Indonesia.
9 Coca-Cola Cherry Vanilla
Coca-Cola back in 2006 announced its new flavor, which was black cherry vanilla. This new release did not excite many people at the time. That was because cherry cola, as well as vanilla cola, have been soda flavors used for a long time. There was nothing overly unique about it.
Then in the summer of 2007, Vanilla Coke which is now Coca-Cola Vanilla came back in the USA. That is when Coca- Cola Cherry Vanilla was discontinued. However, there likely are plenty of people that did like that soda and really miss it nowadays.
8 Mountain Dew Sangrita Blast
The one thing associated with Mountain Dew is that the brand releases interesting flavors. The Sangrita Blast was one of them. It was so unique that initially, only Taco Bell locations served that soda. The taste was comparable to cherry pomegranate. Many people really loved the flavor of that pop.
However, in 2017, Sangrita Blast disappeared, and that had left a lot of people quite upset over it. The one thing that keeps people hopeful is that sometimes these soda brands bring discontinued flavors back. Hopefully, that means Mountain Dew will bring Sangrita Blast back again at some point.
7 Crystal Pepsi
Pepsi at one time wanted to release a clear and caffeine-free version of their cola. They did that in the years 1992 and 1993 as they had released Crystal Pepsi to the American market. The thing that made this pop unusual is that it tasted like cola even though it had the appearance of Sprite or 7-Up.
However, it did disappear into thin air after 1993. This pop cannot be found on any of the shelves in supermarkets. For a short time, Crystal Pepsi did come back to stores in 2016. However, Crystal Pepsi has been sold since on eBay at very high prices. Is it worth spending that kind of money on soda at all, no matter how much it is missed?
6 Hubba Bubba Soda
The film producer, Steve Roeder, created Hubba Bubba Original Bubble Gum Soda in 1987. Snow-cone flavoring was used in the soda and it tasted as it was labeled, like bubble gum. The company that created this bubble gum drink, Novelty Beverage was given license rights from Wrigley to sell it all over the world.
However, before 1990, the drink was discontinued. The fact of the matter is that bubble gum and cola don't really go together. However, even with that said, people who think back on it miss it due to the fact that the 80s was an incredible decade.
5 Pepsi's Wild Bunch
In 1991, Pepsi had released other fruity flavors of its pop. The one that people remember the most was the Pepsi Tropical Chill, and there was also the Strawberry Burst and Raging Razzberry Pepsi sodas along with that. This trio was known as Pepsi's Wild Bunch. This trio released by Pepsi did not last longer than a year because it is hard to associate citrus or berry flavors with cola.
As it was mentioned before, Pepsi tried again with Pepsi Blue 11 years later. However, that didn't last too long either. Pepsi is associated with cola and dark cola! Not clear cola or fruit and berry-flavored cola.
4 Orbitz
Orbitz was released in 1997, and it was the only soda drink that was sold with food in it. It features floating solid candy balls in the bottles. This gave the soda a lava lamp-like appearance which was its gimmick. Orbitz was manufactured by Clearly Canadian Beverage Corporation, and it was popular for a very short time.
However, the novelty of it ran out quickly and it was discontinued within a year. According to TIME Magazine, it was said that Orbitz had a taste that was comparable to cough syrup. Therefore, people must have really flocked to the gimmick and not for the taste.
3 Dr. Pepper Berries & Cream
Cream Soda is delicious, and berries are too. Dr. Pepper is also tasty. However, in 2006, Dr. Pepper combined all of those and came up with the Berries & Cream soda. However, it didn't do well as that soda was too sweet even though they released the diet version as well. Dr. Pepper discontinued this version in 2007.
There are some people who miss it, and Dr. Pepper released Dr. Pepper & Cream Soda just recently, as it is on the shelves of many American supermarkets. Only time will reveal how long that flavor lasts.
2 Coca-Cola BlāK
Coffee is a beverage that is quite appreciated and many people love Coca-Cola. And Coca-Cola decided to create a soda hybrid of cola and coffee which was first introduced in France. This was the Coca-Cola BlāK. Then in 2006, Coca-Cola BlāK made it's way to the USA.
In France, this cola was sweetened with ordinary sugar whereas it was sweetened differently in America. The sweeteners that were used were acesulfame potassium, aspartame, and high-fructose corn syrup. However, this flavor did not last as it was discontinued in 2008. This flavor takes anyone to an easier time over a decade ago, but there are other ways to get a major caffeine jolt if needed.
1 7-Up Gold
The 7-Up Gold flavor was actually not established by 7-Up initially. In fact, Dr. Pepper created the formula for this flavor, and 7-Up bought it from them back in 1987. The appearance of this pop had a reddish-caramel color and it was the flavor that was best compared to a cinnamon-spicy drink.
However, within a year 7-Up Gold was not doing well. The flavor was likely the reason. However, it was not all bad. Whenever this particular pop is remembered, it takes anyone back to memory lane to the late 1980s when life was just so less complicated.
