The season finale of The Bachelor was one of the most dramatic in the shows’ history but seriously aren’t they all dramatic. It was a two-night event full of twists, turns, tears, break-ups, make-ups and shake-ups. However, in the end, Bachelor Nation was left in an uproar over the events that went down.

Here is a recap of the drama. Arie Luyendyk Jr. proposed to Becca Kufrin after he sent the second runner-up Lauren Burnham packing. However, after spending more time with his fiancé, he realized he wanted a second chance with Burnham. So what does any man who met the love of his life on reality TV show do, he breaks up with his fiancé on camera.

Fans were outraged when Luyendyk Jr. had a camera crew film him dumping Kufrin. Bachelor Nation’s outrage continued when he not only got back together with Burnham, which her taking him back is a whole other topic to be discussed but he proposed her on the live After The Rose special.

His actions were despicable. Seriously, the race-car driver could of at least have the decently to break up with his fiancé off camera.  On The Ellen DeGeneres show, Kufrin admitted to being blindsided, even though she questioned why the camera crew was there during one of their secret meetings. As much as fans now dislike Luyendyk Jr., he is actually not the first Bachelor to pull the old switcheroo with the final two ladies.

Luyendyk Jr. pulled a Mesnick. Die-hard Bachelor fans know exactly what that means, as the 13th Bachelor was the first to pull the old bait and switch in the finale. Jason Mesnick was the single dad fans fell in love during The Bachelorette. When he didn’t get the final rose from DeAnna Pappas, he became the new Bachelor.

The single dad narrowed his bevy of beauties down to two ladies, former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Melissa Rycroft and department store buyer Molly Malane. In the end, he proposed to the cheerleader, after saying a heartfelt goodbye to the other woman. Side note his balcony cry after sending Malane packing is infamous.

Fast-forward about six weeks to the After The Rose special, which did not include any Bachelor Nation fans, so it was clear something was going to happen. However, fans were not prepared for what Mesnick pulled. The single dad revealed to Chris Harrison he made a mistake and wanted a second chance with Malane. There was just one problem, he was still engaged to Rycroft. Yep, once again it all played out live.

During the special Mesnick told Rycroft he was calling off their engagement because he was truly in love with Malane. Mesnick would later tell The Huffington Post he actually broke up with Rycroft a month after their engagement but producers kept it quiet telling him he would need to do it again on camera. He was also not allowed to talk to Malane until they saw each other on the live After The Rose special.

Malane took the guy who broke her heart back. Thankfully, Mesnick didn’t immediately propose to her on the special. However, the two did get married a year later and, of course, it was aired on ABC. They are still married and have a five-year-old daughter together.

The Bachelor switcheroo has been done before but was it really the men who wanted to humiliate the woman, as it played out. According to Mesnick, is on-screen break-up was the producer’s idea and because of his contract, he had to oblige. Could it be Arie Luyendyk Jr. did not want to put Becca Kufrin through the humiliation either, but was forced too?

Something to think about as former The Bachelor and The Bachelorette stars have weighed in about ABC’s decision to air the breakup. There appears to be a lot of blame toward the network as opposed to the race car driver. Drama brings ratings and a new Bachelorette fans feel sorry for, so they will tune in to watch. Sounds like the perfect reality TV dream.

What do you think about the comparison of Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Jason Mesnick’s finals? Do you think the Arie and Lauren will last like Jason and Molly did?
