Short fringes have always lingered in the periphery of cool hair fashion, but this year, fashion experts say that they are all the rage.
Of course, baby bangs look amazing if you’re Audrey Hepburn or Chloe in Don’t Trust The B---- In Apartment 23. But let’s face it, they are a controversial decision for the majority of us.
When they do suit someone, however, they look so chic and vintage-y. Several celebs we never thought could wear a micro-fringe rocked the style last year, laying the groundwork for their gladiatorial comeback.
Among those who nailed it was Bella Thorne, Emma Roberts, and Emma Watson. And let’s not forget Bella Hadid with her French-girl fringe. They all looked amazing with their cute short bangs and sparked a mini fringe frenzy. Recently 17-year-old actress Rowan Blanchard chopped off her signature bob to tres-chic pixie bangs. The Girl Meets World star stunned everyone at the Golden Globes in a candy pink Marc Jacobs dress that gave strong Audrey Hepburn vibes.
Another unforgettable example that comes in mind is Beyonce’s 2014 micro-fringe. It was cute, but definitely not her best look.
If done correctly, your baby bangs will look more “Roman Holiday” and less “pre-schooler field trip”.
So should you take the plunge or not? There’s no straight answer. Hair stylists advise that baby bangs mainly suit heart-shaped faces with great cheekbones. But as hair expert Rob Scott tells Refinery29, they are not such a good idea for those with square faces and strong jaws, as they tend to create sharper angles. Scott, who can be found at the Larry King London salon, advises that If you don’t have a heart-shaped face, you should go for softer bangs instead.
Different stylists, however, insist that baby bangs are doable for all. You just have to find the style and texture that suits your face and unique features. All in all getting baby bangs or not is a very personal and subjective choice.
And if you’re looking for a generic fringe change, the Instagram lookbook gives you endless choice. From curly fringes to pixie and curtain bangs, in 2019 anything goes.
